bc he was different then.....he attacked when being attacked and wasnt as nervous about being ko'd. the jermain of those fights would be a much bigger threat for the tournament than he actually is
He caught Hopkins at the tail end of his career, when making 160 was becoming increasingly painful. He was still fighting wildly, which made him more unpredictable. Hopkins was wary of this. The book wasn't out on how to beat him. Styles. And helpful scoring.
You have to consider that. I wary of the term "exposed", it's so overused, but the Pavlik KO may have done just that.
