...Will his hater's and his non-fans, like Pacman fans, actually take their hat off and acknowledge what Floyd has done for boxing, or will they be glad to see the back of him? It's like George Groves and Carl Froch's rivarly, it was very intense and they hated each other, when Froch was active, but as soon as Froch retired the compliment's on Carl's career started flooding in from Groves. So will we see the same kinda thing when Mayweather retires from his haters, non-fans, and boxers who fought him Like pacman and golden boy etc.

The fighters already praise him, I don't think there is one fighter who wouldn't want to be in his position. Floyd is a great fighter. True boxing fans know. There were fights that could have been made, some cherry picking etc but floyd paid his dues in the lower weights.

They'll appreciate him but won't admit it, it'll soften if he hangs around too long, which he will, and gets beaten.

99% of the floyd hate has nothing to do with boxing though, People just hate the fact hes rich flashy and successful and is so good that he hasn't suffered defeat. Its something most people can't relate to and envy, while the people who are in the pursuit of their own success in life and don't waste time hating on other people trying to justify their own failures admire and are inspired by his accomplishments and work ethic.

I just form my opinion on Mayweather between the ropes as I do any fighter, that's where it matters.

And Go on jezza, tell them. Watch the envelope jeremy kyle episode, it's legendary.

If he fights GGG at 154lbs, I'll be a massive Floyd fan even IF he loses.
    Otherwise, no.

edit: props to morparfan for the heads up.

Give it about 15-20 years. He'll be viewed in a completely different light by than and more than likely will be perceived as one of the 20 greatest boxers who ever lived.

He just needs at least a decade away from the sport, than boxing fans and historians will start to sensationalize him.

You should DM him that on twitter. I think your opinion will mean a lot to him.

I don't think he will be sensationalised.
With boxing, we like boxers who take on everyone. Mayweather will always be known as the best (not necessarily greatest) of his era after beating Pacquiao, that's for sure.

With that said, Mayweather will always be seen as the guy who avoided stylistic threats (Williams, Margarito, prime Pac), taking on a past prime and injured Pacquiao (Pacquiao will be known as an excuse maker somewhat as a result of this fight).
He'll also be known for fighting weak opposition i.e a 2010 Mosley, a 2007 De La Hoya, a past prime Mitchell, a past prime Cotto.

He'll always be known for his even fight with an underwhelming Maidana and what most believe to be his loss against Castillo in their first fight.

He'll also always be known as putting on a stinker in a fight that made boxing not even look like a combat sport, but what the public believe to be a coward show that is won by light jabs, excessive runnning & holding.

He may be known by the most extremely casual folk as one of the GOATs though as they'll see De La Hoya, Pacquiao, Mosley and Canelo on his resume. Even then, casual fans know Pacquiao was past prime.

Us in boxing forums will know the truth though. The Floyd fanboys will die down, only a few will remain like the MVC's who will become the MAG1965's (Hearns premier fanboy) of the Fabulous Four generation.

Connor McGregor of the UFC is everything people wanted Floyd Mayweather to be. Genuinely charismatic rather than a weird phoney, inside and outside the ring.

Yeah and if he fights GGG, not a fight anybody should demand unless anybody takes it seriously that he's TBE, you'll say why can't he ****ing fight Kovalev if he just beat the middleweight champ? Cotto had a middleweight belt, he went up there so he is fair game, if Cotto was still fighting at 154 nobody would demand he stop ducking Golovkin, once you go north of that you're a target.

FLOYD made a career at owning come foward boxer. The more they rush in the more he shines. I know general public get excited when DLH, maidana, pac hit him on the gloves and arms and shoulder but it dosent do much to win a fight

I think you may be right about all of that. Although I don't think Floyd ever went for a charismatic angle, right? More of a loud mouth villain angle?
