He's 2-0-2 against DLH, Maidanax2, Pac Win against past prime 2007 version of De La Hoya Draw against Maidana in the first fight. Draw against Pacquiao (arguably lost, arguably won).
He'll be remembered as one who isn't as great as Oscar De La Hoya: http://www.boxingforum24.com/showthread.php?t=537628
I'm pretty sure on what Floyd has done in boxing, but not so much on what Floyd has done for boxing. Care to elaborate on that?
Since the likes of Mike Tyson have left boxing, Floyd has basically been the face of boxing and carried it and kept it popular, whether you like Floyd or not. Boxing in the last 12 or so years without Floyd wouldn't have been as popular, MMA would've been knocking on the door.
Yeah but what happens after he retires then all these guys will want to act like Floyd and worry about the business side first ..He has hurt the sport for the future and has left a bad example ...His fans will justify his actions because he made so much money but he literally watered down the sport ! With any luck the HW's take over and boxing and it thrives again !
Floyd gets so much attention because people pay to see him lose, how on Earth does the general public find a clincher, hugger, runner, potshotter with no knock out power entertaining :huh Floyd's picking on entertaining opponents also helped people actually bare to watch his fight. If Floyd fought Lara, not many would give a damn.
:deal Floyd needs to fight a big name, or a Mexican or Chicano to sell his fights. Fans don't pay to watch Mayweather fight, they pay to watch Mayweather's opponent hopefully KTFO Floyd. :deal Floyd got away with fighting B and C level opponents because the mainstream public ar oblivious to what boxing really is. Mainstream just swallows hook, line and sinker.
Great post. When its all said and done, and Floyd no longer brings this sport any money, I really think the experts and historians will be hard on him simply because of the severe lack of elite/prime opposition on his resume.
