Disagree with John Mugabi. Light hitting James Green had him out on his feet before the Hagler bout. He took it good against Hagler but Hagler was the first top flight guy he ever fought. You need more than one fight to settle into the "iron chinned" category imo.

I recall reading about Mugabi being knock cold in sparring. According to his promoter it was before he fought Hagler.

 

I'd actually forgotten about that.

 

John Conteh. John was pretty good at taking it on the chin up until the last few years of his career. He got knocked down against Jesse Burnett,Ivy Brown and Matthew Saad Muhammad (both fights)

 

Yeah I agree Mugabi had a good but not great chin

 

Yep Hagler dented it in their second fight in 84 and several others did later on. The cash register was full.

 

If you are right, then the best possible version of Joe Louis, never existed.
