One aspect that Floyd ruined in boxing was making "undefeated records" meaningful

it created an atmosphere of other fighters more worried about protecting their undefeated record "their precious 0" and avoid fighting top competition

I mean look at Deontay Wilder's pitiful 2 year HW "reign"

Of course, the ONLY fighter that fought every single top champion spanning 2 separate decades "ruined" everything to trolls like you

Everyone is now hiding behind their plastic belts, holding them hostage from the true champions of each division and rinsing the fans.

SSM refused to even entertain fighting fmj until the $$$ was worth the L. and AM, give me a ****ing break. Marg wasn't capable of following the exact route fmj gave him to EARN the opportunity.

All he had to do was win a couple fights back to back and he would've gotten a shot. What did he do, lost his very next fight. Marg NEVER put himself in the position to be gifted that type of payday

It's not about who he faced IMO, where Floyd could be criticized is about how keen he was to tout his undefeated record. Quite understandable considering that people always compared him to Pac, but I believe it did have an influence on younger fighters. Seeing Floyd as an undefeated superstar encouraged them decide to protect their "0" at all costs, forgetting that the zero is only meaningful if you've fought good opposition.

edit: also see my post #9 below.

A lot of truth there too, personally don't think Floyd is 100% blameless, but you're right. It's the job of the community to place an appropriate value on undefeatedness, and it's the job of fighters to promote themselves.

I liked when Floyd snr kept yelling at jr that he was 41 and 1 when they had that fall out on 24/7 or all access or whatever promo show it was.

At least Floyd rematched his perceived losses/draws in Castillo and Maidana although its strange it never happened with De La Hoya. Considering the $$$$ the Oscar rematch would have brought especially. I wasn't following the sport closely back then but can someone shed some light on why it never materialised?

floyd always said he felt his body needed a rest at the time...was it true or not who knows but maybe that little retirement allowed him to compete at the top at nearly 40 years old

I actually don't think this is as much of an issue as people make it out to be. Neither De La Hoya or Canelo suffered from a drop off in popularity/earning power from losing their 0s and its a similar story for others. I think the only major effect is on the boxer themselves psychologically, I recall Hatton saying how down he got after the Floyd defeat because he lost the feeling of invincibility
