So, we all know what the alphabet soup of boxing is with the WBA, WBC, WBO, and IBF and how there is way too many titles in the sport. Right? So which championship do we recognize as the one that defines the true World Champion? I know of the transnational rankings that came together a few years back and that's a great help, but is that enough? Some people consider the holder of The Ring's belt to be the true champion, but can we considering it's a magazine owned by greedy promoters? So my question to you all is this: Which of the 4 sanctioning bodies should we recognize as boxings true World Championship, and why? I guess this is the problem we face was fighters don't fight under the umbrella of an actual league like a UFC. I've always hated the promoter/manager way of handling fights. It allows for too much ducking and with the multiple sanctioning bodies the sport has become to championship littered. As fans of the sport it's time to come together and recognize one true World Championship.
There's no one Ring (belt) to rule them all... that was trown in the firery pits of Mount Doom a long time ago. :bart
Are you sure you don't mean PCB instead of PBC? http://www.pinkcollarboxing.co.uk/pink-collar-boxing.php
If the orgs actually keep working toward unifications like they say, and incorporate mandatories for unified belt that is the best solution. Also, UFC is not necessarily a great model. While I am no MMA expert myself I have it on good authority from diehard MMA fan friends that plenty of great fights have not happened in UFC - or because some fighters are in different leagues or don't get along with Dana White, etc.
Casuals always want to wait for some governing entity to crown a "champion." If you don't consistently know who the No. 1 and the No. 2 are (and the general Top 5) in every division—you're not paying enough attention. Every fan should know the landscape of every division.
problem with UFC "Champs" is they have a hand full of fighters per division and you see the same old fighters over and over how worthy is their middleweight title when the champ is 12-0 and is fighting a 37 year old with 10 losses? (Weidman vs Belfort)
