Got knocked out recently in sparring by this one, this sure is one hell of a combination to master!

There's nothing like someone countering your jab to make you look stupid.

There was some weird period when I sparred a lot of south paws. They would counter my jab with a right hook and I almost always fell for it. Freakin *******s. I guess I was so predictable since I always start combinations with a left jab. Eventually, I started mixing in some lead rights and hooks.

    Nice, but dangerous.

That is what happens when a guy has "expected" offense. When he jabs he always jabs fully, at jab range, etc... That is why it is so important to feint and to mix it up. Never become predictable.

    Beautiful counter, thanks for posting.

Marquez did something similar against Diaz, right before the first knockdown, in which he anticipated Diaz's left hand (ever so slightly telegraphed) and threw a straight right to beat him to the punch. It was the blow that hurt him and led to the combination that knocked him to the canvas. Great stuff.

Vargas was a sucker for getting the jab countered.

i.e. Mosley vs. Vargas II KO - jab countered with left hook.
Trinidad vs. Vargas knockdown 1 - jab countered with left hook.

You can learn everything you ever wanted to about combinations from JMM.

he loves the uppercut from either hand, but will throw 3 lefts in a row at some point in most fights.

I would prefer back-handed uppercut stepping off on the back foot
