After the one in the OP he could maybe tell himself it was a fluke, but in the rematch after Thompson got off the canvas, hung in taking his best and then still did him in, the jig had to have been up in Big Truck's mind. Aura shattered. :deal:

Round about this time Price v Audley happened, Price was 11-1 for KO1. I wanted to put a grand on it but I was on a gambling ban and my missus wouldn’t let me!

Think it was at the same time I wanted to put Bayern Munich to win the champions league they were 10-1 even after just making the final the year before. again my missus said no and Bayern went onto win it.

Me too. It's rare that a bookie gets it badly wrong but that was one time.

Was that the very slow count for Thompson or am I imagining that? So close to having him out of there and who knows if Price would have kicked on with a full talk of confidence again. He should never have took the rematch straight away and admits he should have went nowhere near Lennox Lewis.

Was bizarre and painful how much he deteriorated after that. As someone above said, literally everything went far worse! Every shot was forced ans pushed. Watch his early fights, there’s zip in every shot stinging power and hand speed. They were domestic level but so was the likes of Little and Ali who he looked poor against. As been discussed before he must have just used all his energy on nerves before fight.

He was very unlucky throughout his career. Drug cheat after drug cheat, being robbed of a conclusive ko of that dirty Ali so and so, Foster saving Povetkin from a big chance of a ko then letting him nearly kill Price a couple of rounds later, covid ruining his extra promised Hearn pay day for taking the Chisora fight short notice, whilst not fit and saving the show.

I think when I’m old and look back at them days and that era I will still be frustrated at how his career went. He is the prime example of how important the mental side is in my opinion.

He was a laughing stock on here for ages. At one point I’m sure it was just me and ‘Price is back’ anyone remember her? Who stuck by him haha. She was mad her! Glad he’s more respected now.

Many on the forum rated the Punching Plumber as best of all the heavyweight prospects coming up at the time.

He got stopped from a punch that was far from laser-targeted nor fully leveraged. Simply doesn’t look like the kind of punch to turn a fight, much less end one.

So I don’t think Price goes onto great things if he doesn’t lose this one … we see here and in later fights that he lacked the chin to compete with top heavyweights. Tony the Tiger looked well past it going into the fight and the cherry-pick went wrong.

Price is a lovely lad but the man simply didn't have the chin to compete in this brutal sport.

I liked his punditry work with Crolla for the Dubois - Bryan, maybe that's where his talents lie.

I remember seeing Price absolutely demolish Sam Sexton and I thought we had a genuine Heavyweight killing machine on our hands

Boxing's funny. Sexton beat Rogue twice, and Rogie came damn near handing Fury his first loss. So it's easy to see why contemporary opinion felt that Price was a few levels above Fury by transitive property (Price > Sexton > Rogan=Fury).

I remember these fights vividly and can't believe it's been 10 years.
Price really looked unbeatable up until Thompson and this has to be one of the biggest shocks this century.

Thompson's post fight interviews were Gold with the 'break my wife's hip" etc.

Then we had the complete meltdown from Maloney. He actually full broke down crying like a child on live tv, tears, sound effects and all. One of the weirdest things I've ever seen. He then fainted and had to be rushed to hospital.

I always remember that haha. I can’t believe it’s not more iconic. I have always said if Price had won that fight Kelly would still be Frank.

Never actually watched price much when he was making waves but went back and watched some of his fight pre thompson a few years back. Tbh the flaws we,re always going to undo him. Always looked unsure of himself and tiring badly even whilst winning.

Good guy anyway. Who got a bit unlucky against drug cheats. Always felt price didnt get the memo....one of the few that wasnt cheating with drugs. Hence why his stamina was so bad in comparison.
