If you had to recommend someone one fight they should watch in their entire lives what would it be and why? Personally i would recommend the 'rumble in the jungle' because thats the first fight i ever saw (on the when we were kings DVD) and ever since then i have been in love with boxing!! I really look forward to peoples replies
Jake LaMotta v Sugar Ray Robinson VI. Robinson puts on perhaps the greatest display in the history of boxing, showing top, top class composite punching whilst firmly on the backfoot. He has every punch in the book, and they are all thrown hard. His dance parnter is the most durable fighter in the history of the Middleweight division and as game as they come. Robinson doesn't get it all his own way and drops plenty of rounds before going into the type of overdrive that could slay almost any fighter at the weight. He was incredible on that night. The insanely brutal ending. "You never knocked me down, Ray": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QV9OrNgCVf8
castillo vs coralles 1- this is prob my personal favourite as both of them r on the list of my favourite fighters and that round 10 was unforgettable
Let's even add fantasy fights here : Mike Tyson vs Muhamamd Ali Marvin Hagler vs Kelly Pavlik Tommy Hearns vs Tito Trinidad Floyd Mayweather vs Sugar Ray Leonard Julio Cesar Chavez vs Roberto Duran
Agreed.. If I was to recommend any fight in the history of boxing, I'd recommend Muhammad Ali vs George Foreman.. Two great heavyweights and the intensity in the atmosphere, the conferences.. If I was to pick a modern day fight and not a past fight, I would definitely recommend Marquez-Vazquez & Corrales-Castillo...
Foreman-Ali is a reasonable choice, because there is a huge dose of magic about it, but there is very little actual great boxing in it. What great boxing there is comes in the first round, then a few glimmers from Ali on the ropes. It's a symphony in great generalship having said all that.
I love that fight to, especially the post fight interview "I told yall George Forman hit like a sissy"
Hey Mcrain, did Jake ever go and say that to Robinson? I'v seen the fight several times a while ago and can't ever recall him going over to Suagar Ray at all after the fight.
My two favourite associated moments - 1 - The Harry Carpenter comentary for BBC which just fades in out of this mad swell of noise right on the knockdown:"...got him! He's got him!...And I don't think Foreman is going to get up! Oh my God, he's won the title back at thirty-two". That there gives me goosebumps. 2 - Even better, at the post fight interview, like you say, but Ali has about 150 microphones in his face, everyone shouting and screaming questions at him. Ali: "Everybody be quite and listen to me! Attention!" And you could hear a ****ing pin drop. Not a word, no-one said a word as he goes on this mad tirade: "Never again make me be defeated! Never again make me the underdog! Until i'm about fifty years old! Then you might get me!"
