Look out for heavyweight debutant Johnny Fisher in 2021. I’ve been watching him up close at Mark Tibbs gym and the lads a beast. He’s been getting some great sparring too with likes of Joe Joyce, Fabio Wardley, Hughie Fury and Soloman Dacres.
Bio on matchroom site: Known as ‘The Romford Bull’, Johnny Fisher is trained by respected coach Mark Tibbs at the Origin Gym in Rainham, Essex. The 21-year-old will look to make a name for himself in the Heavyweight division and has the size and punch power to do just that. Standing 6ft 5ins, Fisher has already gained invaluable experience from sparring 2016 Olympic silver medallist Joe Joyce and undefeated S-JAM Boxing stablemate Guido Vianello in a recent Las Vegas training camp. A Brief but explosive stint in the amateurs saw Fisher score nine first round knockouts in ten wins and now the big-hitting Brit is planning on announcing himself as the latest contender in a thriving domestic Heavyweight scene. I do like to see fighters swerve a lengthy amateur career and go straight into the professional game. He must be a beast to get a professional contract with MR, based off only 10-15 amateur fights. Did he start boxing late?
Just checked his IG, 21?! What are they feeding this lad, looks about 38. Looks a unit, like a young Glenn McCrory.
I used to think that about swering alot of the Ams but I'm not so sure anymore. It's a good way to face alot of different styles in quick succession and become more rounded before the Pros where they are they are generally in one sided beatdowns and don't learn much. Obviously isn't always the case.
He’s signed with Hearn and Matchroom which is always a good sign. Can’t find any footage of any of his fights? He has 10 wins including 9 knockouts in first round, I’m presuming they were low level fights. He comes across as a nice guy and hopefully he can win a British Title.
Looks very heavy handed on the pads. Can't find any footage of his amateur fights though. Looking forward to seeing his pro debut, will judge him then
He certainly is a unit and looks bred from farmer stock or something - looks to have that natural, freakish strength without having to pound the weights. He also looks pretty sturdy with a rather large head and thick neck. Could be one to watch out for.
Watched a bunch of his interviews over the last few months and he seems like a really nice lad This content is protected This content is protected Looks handy and explosive too This content is protected This content is protected
It's fantastic to see the influence of Joshua and Fury encouraging a veritable conveyor belt of UK Heavyweight talent. The way things are looking, we'll have a vice like grip on the HW division for perhaps a generation.
Yeah, there's a few promising looking ones coming up. I like Fabio Wardley as well, like Fisher, he seems like a very likeable chap and talented too.
I've been saying that Wardley is a dark horse at the very least at domestic level for some time. He's naturally gifted and talented which always gives you a head start in the fight game. He's visibly improving every fight and given that he's obviously smart and articulate and a student of the game, will progress pretty rapidly.
Other young lads to look out for include David Adeleyle, Solomon Dacres and Mitch Barton. In the amateurs, big Frazer Clarke will turn over after the Olympics, and then the next two promising young heavyweights are Delicious Orie and Hosea Stewart in my opinion. Not sure how talented these lads are compared to the Joshua's, Fury's, Joyce's etc, but it's great to know that there's a strong depth of talent.
For a heavyweight, I’ve been really impressed with his engine and levels of cardio. Mark has mentioned moving about with him this month so I might be able to give you some more first hand experience in a few weeks.
