Ive read a few threads regarding Andre Ward after his good win over Mikkel Kessler. While I agree it was a good win, it now seems some people are trying to build Ward up as a potential ATG SMW, which he might well become. Ward raised his game brilliantly like alot of fighters do on there 1st world title attempt but his victory over Miranda didnt have the same impact as A Abrahams rematch victory over Edison so I thought id put some questions over 1)Do you think Ward after his one win over Kessler alone makes him a better world champ than say 3 time WBC champ Markus Beyer, who won his title over Richie Woodhall and made 8 successful defences over his 3 reigns against an undefeated Danny Green, Eric Lucas & Omar Sheika? 2)Do you think, Ward, regardless of his win over Kessler is as much of an accomplished fighter as Mikkel, & do you think Ward would have won these fights of Kesslers against the unbeaten L Andrade, & the away win to A Mundine? What you think?
Most people who know boxing saw the Andre Ward fight as a problematic one for Mikkel Kessler...i thought Kessler would win the fight, but knew that it wasn't going to be easy and an upset was a possibility. Ward is a very good fighter, but don't count out Jermain Taylor...he handles an inside fight much better than kessler and could pull off the upset if he is not mentally damaged from his last two fights... The Jermain Taylor who beat B-hop twice could get a decsion and possibly earn a TKO against Ward. most on this forum suffer from herd mentality, so this post won't be taken seriously...I know this...but remember, after the fight, I will still be here for acknowledgment and criticism. :good
I made tht one thread but tht was to see what people think, if Ward fights Calzaghe's resume, since i believed it aint that legendary as people make it out to be. I dont think Ward will beat Jermain Taylor, but that thread was only made to see if Calzaghe's resume is legendary, coz if it is legendary then Ward wont be able to go thru it without losing 2 - 3 times.
Hello again. Ward might turn out to be the goods but from what ive seen so far I think he would have lost to 4 of the fighters on Calzaghes resume when Cal fought them, but even though I like Kessler, he is not one of them. What do you answer to this thread though?
There's no way Ward beats B-hop right now...not even this version of him. Ward is a good fighter though...no doubt about it. But, as most already know, styles make fights!! The verdict is still out on Andre Ward, but he has a ton of potential...so, we shall see.
Its early days but u gotta give him a chance. I was very impressed with him. He only had 20 fights and went in against kessler which was a big step up but looked so masture and composed in the ring and made kessler lokk stupid. Ward has a lot of talent and the way he boxed so composed and to the game plan reminded me a bit of bernard hopkins. The guy has the potential and i can see him winning the super six.
Although Taylor has suffered some bad KOs of late im looking forward to that bout also for the same reasons & im also not sure that Ward has quite as much power as Abraham or Froch. But expect Ward to prevail
1) Ward is still too fresh to be compared to Beyer or even Thulani Malinga, he hasnt even defended his title yet. But he does look like he has the potential to be better than them. 2) I think it wasn't Ward was that good, it was Kessler was that badly One dimensional for Ward. Ward left his chin out alot of the fight and once he is in the ring with a boxer that uses lateral Movement, and throws hooks ihe would be in a tougher fight
Ward looks awesome...He should beat JT by ko and I think he'll win a UD with Dirrell..He will mos def have the 1 or 2 seed in the finals
I think the real advantage of these guys (Dirrel and Ward) is that unlike Kessler, Froch, Abraham, Taylor, who's game plans/weaknesses are well documented, with plenty of video evidence, they are unkown. Calzaghe showed a blue print on how to deal with Kessler, which isn't necessarily the plan Ward followed, but Kesslers weaknesses were highlighted. No point in discussing Froch, it is pretty blatant what he can and cannot do and Taylor is a half empty gas tank. Abraham is the most difficult given he is looking pretty mean right now, but his movement is limited and he isn't particularly fast. There isn't really all that much available on the other two regarding big fights, how they deal with being tested. Both of them are also still very much in development. It will be intersting to see how Ward deals with those who have worked an effective game plan for him, because essentially the main reasons why most greats remain undefeated/succesful throughout their careers, aside from raw talent, are 1.) Retaining a passion and 2.) Adaptability. With his skills, if Ward has the ability to change his game mid-fight & adapt to a fighter that has his number to begin with there is no reason why he can't be a great. But for the simple reason that he is still new, while his win over Kessler should definately be commended, he is not a better world champ than Beyer and is not as accomplished as Kessler.
