Thing about Tarver Jones is it wasnt just once, it was 3 ****ing times. The first fight I thought Tarver won.

But if it was just weight he should have been able to adjust and not loose another two times. Tarver did know how to bother Jones and that was get him to the ropes and close the distance because nobody could beat jones from a distance. Jones lost a few rounds to hopkins back in 93 from going to the ropes so it wasnt a secret.

I dont think the weight is a big argument but I do think Jones' age is a big argument. Tarver had old jones number but younger jones would be more mobile and could win better. Still think he would loose some rounds and he almost never lost rounds in his prime.

It all comes down to styles. A fighter having another's number is simply that one fighter will always know how to trouble another fighter regardless of advantages. They call it, "having the guy's number," because it gives off the impression you always know what he's going to do. Marquez knows exactly how to fight Manny. No matter what the circumstances, Marquez will always give Manny a tough fight.

You look at Ken Norton as a fighter and Muhammad Ali as a fighter, and it's clear that Ali is the better fighter. If they had never fought, I doubt anyone would be saying that Norton would beat Ali. (or they'd be encouraged to visit a doctor) Norton is probably the perfect example of a fighter having another fighters number. Stylistically, certain things that make Ali the great fighter he is don't work on Norton; which gives Norton the opportunity to rise to the occasion.

In the Peterson vs. Khan fight, Max said that Peterson is going to have to be "special" one of these nights. Because of the styles of both fighters, Peterson was able to rise to the occasion and choose to be special. In that, he was able to beat Khan. The same goes for Norton.

More like Taylor over Hopkins, not sure Pavlik had Jermain's number, as Abraham and Froch showed they could beat him almost the same exact way.

THIS is a great example. I think Forrest undoubtedly had/has Mosley's number. His cell, home, and work numbers, in fact. Mosley couldn't even beat him in the minors.

Quick question - I know its had to say, considering he has only fought a rematch once, but who do you think is the closest to proving they have/had/could have had FMJ's number?

The only fighters to give him any real trouble for a consistent period of time were Castillo and Oscar. Conventional wisdom points to Castillo, but I think the scores would have just gotten wider the more they fought. The same goes for Oscar.

It's tough to have a guy like Floyd's number because he makes adjustments really well. He's so versatile and has so many assets to pull from that you'd basically have to have an answer for EVERYTHING Floyd does. Every opponent that had any success with Floyd early always gets shut down after a couple of rounds. If he can't get you in a first fight, it's pretty difficult to imagine he wouldn't get you in a second.

De La Hoya should have got the nod in the second in many people's opinions.

I would say Mosley Margarito. Shane would always have the physical strength to break Margarito's momentum in the clinch and then 'knock the grease off him' as Nazeem Richardson put it.

Style = physical attributes, skill, talent, IQ, etc.

Style is just an expression of all those factors. Let me put it this way, if Pac was a orthodox jab 1/2 puncher while still having the speed and size would the results be the same? Possibly - at least much higher than southpaw angles Pac.

So Pac does have Hatton's #, MAB has Naz, etc.
