    I disagree with that article.
Fury is a lot better than he appears, I believe.
Fury just wasn't there to be hit, and the Wlad formula was completely negated. For years people have noted that Wlad was very predictable and robotic, effective at what he did - and effective against various styles - but basically not very adaptable in his chosen cautious style.
Fury had the style and dimensions to render Wlad's method ineffective, and do just enough to nick the rounds.
    It's all about angles.

    * Of course, Wlad's age did not help matters either, blunting his work and reducing his already mediocre work rate to a crawl.

It's nice to write articles about styles and strengths and weaknesses, and wax nostalgic in remembering those exciting fighters of the past. But really, it's way too easy to explain away dull fights and ugly styles by saying these guys "can't fight", pretending we're experts because we can talk about fighters who retired 50 years ago or whatever.
It's much harder sometimes to try to understand why a fighter like Fury can look so bad to our (biased) eyes yet evidently be much better than he looks.

    Wlad Froze.

Something in the dude's brain just Froze.

Fury did nothing that Haye didn't do.

Haye landed about the same number of punches, 72 (and slightly better quality) as Fury, 86.

Jennings landed more punches, 110 (they were also better quality) than Fury, 86.

    The difference was Wlad himself.

He landed at his his usual 23 -26 % in all three fights.

But he just didn't throw against Fury. (231 compared to 509 against Haye and 545 against Jennings).

    Dude froze.

Maybe Tyson made him freeze, can't say.

    But freeze, he did.

After three rounds, I was wondering when is it coming.

By the end of eight, I started thinking that he's leaving it a bit late, but it's coming.

By the end of 11, I started to sense a loss for the Ukranian.

They are going to fight again.

My first though was that Wlad will destroy him this time around.

But I'm not so sure. We could be looking at the same script again. My favourite gypsy will be at home this time, and more confident, and this game has a HUGE mental component.

It wasn't, IMO, Wlad's skills that lost him the fight in Germany. He froze.

    It was his brain.

He absolutely outshines the (admittedly underrated) less-skilled Fury in every facet of the sport.

But if he doesn't get his head right, he's going to lose again !

It was awful on they eye, but i still didnt blink for 12 rounds. Fury cant fight? He fought the PERFECT fight to beat somebody who must of thought he had heard it all, seen it before and dismantled any threat in the division. Peter Fury had the tools needed in Tyson and Peter added the plan and tactics. They need plenty of credit for everything they did tactically that training camp.

Vlads unwillingness to engage was a real bonus. Knew he was very worried about taking shots but not to that extent. But the way Fury went about business that night is what made Vlad so gun shy. He has faced much bigger punchers that Fury but always had control of them, Tyson seized control.

But saying this, going forward with Tyson Fury, he is the only man with the tools to do that to Vlad but that package was perfect for that fight, against other opponents who operate differently aswell as not being as bothered about taking a few shots, that package is not automatically the winning formula.

Atleast he has opened up the divisions so the boxing mafia can muck about with the belts again.

The author fails to mention the main reason for the defeat. AGE. Not having the stamina, speed or power of his youth created most of Wlad's doubt. Would the Wlad who destroyed Pulev lose to Fury? I can't see that. He'd nail Fury once and Fury either goes down or opts to risk even less than he did vs Wlad at 39.

I also think he underrates Fury a bit. No less authority than Manny Steward said Fury was the most likely successor to Wlad. Years after his death, he was proven correct.

Wlad at 38 looked great, he hit the steep decline at age 39, just 4 month shy of his 40th birthday.

And he's wrong, Fraizer in his last fight would lose to Fury. Joe had little smoke left vs. Floyd Cummings.

Joke of an article. Filled with contradictions. I was surprised as anyone that Fury won. I was way off, but it is apparent that Wlad simply couldn't pull the trigger at almost 40. He may win the rematch but the end is very near and more erratic performances are sure to follow if Wlad continues on, with more frequency.
The hate is so strong against Wladimir but his accomplishments can not be taken away. Nine and half consecutive years as the best in the divsion. Only Louis can lay a claim like that. 23 belt defenses and 18 consecutive are also impressive. Top 5 heavy in my book and I'll be sad to see him go. Nobody on the horizon to me will bring that type of stability to the division. Never mind the class he exuded outside the ropes and the dedication inside the ring.

Its called having no warrior spirt and no mental fortitude on top of having a glass chin and having a panic attack reaction to being hit.

These draw backs were apparent in Wlad to anybody who had a keen eye for the sport but you and the rest of the Klitturds pretended for years they didn't exist when making silly h2h arguments for him against the greats.

Along with willingly freezing , he also turned his back away from the action countless times. Pure cowardice from a man who used his size advantage non stop to rob contenders of a fair opportunity of winning.

I actually like Rummy's take on this fight, which is that Fury's feet movement and herky jerky head movements were confusing Wlad and forcing him to reset all the time. This was his punch output was so low. This might explain a lot of why Wlad looked so bad.

Course he could have also just aged overnight, which is known to happen to boxers in their late 30's.

I agree. Wlad is a cowardly fighter (inb4 keyboard warrior calls fighter a coward). He has no heart whatsoever.

It's one thing to lose because you just didn't have it in you to beat your opponent, maybe you were outskilled or stopped. But at least you died trying.

Wlad lost his belts with not even as much as a whimper all because he was afraid of taking a shot, it was just pathetic.

If Wlad wants to gain his respect back, he has to show he can turn it up when he needs to and go for broke.

Yeah, yeah, blah blah blah, etc.

You were predicting his downfall, like a broken record, from the day your sorry asz hit the forum.

A broken clock is right twice a day.

I expect you'll be right about something again, in the next twelve years. :D
