Yeah i will second that, good shout, two great fighters decided to go to war that night, the outcome was horific and a man pretty much lost his life, the other man had injuries for a month.. All for the love of boxing, crazy really when you think about it.
Good post, such a shame that some ignorant idiots on these forums continually rant about wanting to see fighters KTFO.
The rabbit punching that the ref let go was the worst I ever saw in this sport, and I've seen many a fight.
Typical, cynical new-breed of fan who is too quick to assume. How about giving the man credit for putting his life on the line against the most fierce puncher of the time. Also Benn was the bigger super-middle, McClellan had'nt fought at the weight before. Do you not think that could have had more to do with it? Well done for putting this up! Benn is an honest guy, always was.
What like America dont give freebies. Biased refs weighed down in dollars, hey you got the biggest conmen in the game.. Fact. Hey michigan warrior your quotes are quite good most of the time but you let yourself down with that,
Benn certainly wasn't the bigger guy. McClellan used to come into the ring at 180+ and remain chiseled, as a MIDDLEWEIGHT. Benn struggled for years to grow into super-middle and came into the ring around 170 as a super-middle.
Yeah i know it took Benn a few years to grow into the weight and he never hit as hard as he did at middle. I followed him all his career. His one of my top 3 favourite fighters. Fair enough about McClellan, but he'd never fought at the weight before. I was making a counter point to the posters silly statement about Benn being on PEDS!
I was disgusted in Jim watt commentating that night - the 1st knockdown that Mclellan suffered he'd just took a massive right hand flush off benn - jim watt was saying that Mclellan had no heart and it wasnt his chin that was hurt but his heart - meaning he quit , On the US coverage ferdie Pacheco was no better - saying Mclellan had just quit ??? It was easily the most brutal fight ive saw and to say gerald had no heart was disgusting.
Agreed ! A brutal all british affair was Eubank v Watson 2 - the 11th round was even more dramatic than round 10 in Corrales Castillio 1 .
