Oscr is a warrior and would fight anybody. period. the only fighters he wont fight are puerto rican and thisis because his wife is and begged him not to fight one, at least tht is what was reported before he fought pacman.
Yeah I remember him saying that. However he was at the Cotto-Margarito fight and there was talk of him fighting Cotto should he have won. That didn't happen and he told Top Rank commentators he didn't want to fight Margarito after the fight. That's when he decided to go after smaller guys like Pac and Hatton. Oscar was a warrior, but not stupid.
Oscar was always known to go after the really big money no matter who it was. We can argue he underestimated Manny or didn't know how far gone he was till we're all blue in the face but I think he took on Manny just because of the money that would be generated from him taking on the pound for pound best again, even if that meant fighting a lightweight jumping up to 147 while he moved down. If he does fight again. I wouldn't rule out a fight with Marquez at 147 or Alvarez at 154.
The thing is, if Marquez desperately wants similar pay to Manny in the fight contract what better way to put your name out there than fighting the golden boy. Now while I think Oscar won't make 147 without needing to enter in a coffin at this stage in his life, this fight may very well give Marquez necessary exposure to make him that PPV star. It will also make the fight a lot bigger. Then again Marquez has been hurt by left hooks at 135. Against Oscar that could send his head into the crowd. Oscar also seems to be on this crusade "to save boxing" and "make the best fights." He isn't doing either of those things in my opinion by returning to the game, the best thing he can do is hang around the promotion and look pretty.
The Oscar that fought Whitaker, Carr, Quartey or Trinidad at 147 would knock the Margarito that fought Cotto and Shane about worse than Sugar. If he came back after such a stretch now and took on a titanium can like Margarito he is going to lose to man he would never have lost to when he the best pound for pound fighter in the world.
If Oscar comes back, it will be for Floyd. (2 tune-up fights) 1 bum, 1 decent then DLH-Mayweather in 2012. BTW....Khan-Mayweather Nov/Dec 2011 England
I was reading through Oscar's tweets. The guy seems bored out of his mind. I can see how a comeback might seem appealing.
A fight with Cotto or Margarito makes the most sense. Cotto especially. De La Hoya could ride the old Mexico vs Puerto Rico rivalry.
