did you notice Rocky catching some of Moore's counters on his right forearm among the maelstrom of leather he was throwing ??
A bloke told me years ago that Rocky was nicknamed 'clockwork' because he could always wind himself back up in the minute interval but i hadn't heard that one before or since

I've studied this sequence quite a bit. There's a lot of full blooded blows being thrown and Archie is exhausting himself reacting to them defensively.

Archie is working as hard as Rocky is here twisting and turning in an effort to ride the sting out of that power. A lesser fighter than Archie would be a dead man. Moore is giving Rocky half impact on those blows.

    Really good quality video.

That sequence really does epitomise Rocky. It must have been sheer murder fighting him because there was just no letup...just a constant barrage of hard, hurtful shots.

And Moore was tagging him too...but it didn't matter at all. This is one of those moments where I'm sure Archie was sorry that he got what he wished for...a fight with Marciano.j

Thank God he didn't catch Moore cleanly with one of those haymakers.

Moore was a really great fighter. He already held the light-heavy title and was making good money in this fight, and was an old man who had battled for 2 decades to get where he was. I can imagine some champions, under those same circumstance, would have cut their losses and quit before the 9th round in the face of such an onslaught. He could easily have bowed out in the 6th or after the 7th, or stayed there on the canvas, and no one would have blamed him really.

The same thing happened with me! The sequence is pure Marciano: Hitting and hitting until break the opponent down!

As you may remember, Moore was invited to quit after the eighth round by either the referee, his corner, or the fight doctor (depending upon who is doing the telling) and made the memorable reply:

"I, too, am a champion. If I loose it will be by fighting."

Amazing sequence...at the end it seems like Moore just shakes his head and thinks..."damn..."

I count 9 misses of 36 punches Rocky throws here against a moving, defensive wizard.

    It's a good ratio.

As great as Archie was at riding these blows that's a lot of connections in such a short 27 second sequence.

Agreed. And not just any punches, haymaker after haymaker.

I never used to rate Marciano that highly, but the more I watch his fights, the harder he gets to beat. I think the giants would be a step too far, but similar sized guys are in trouble. Marciano was a freak.

I thought Archie used his elbows nicely to block most of those punches....that last one was the final straw tho
