One of my favourite fights this year is still Casamayor vs. Katsidis...

Truly an impressive display by Casamayor because for all intents and purposes, he's been past his best and moving into shot territory lately and was the betting underdog against Katsidis. Couple of years back, it'd have been a walk in the park for Joel because Kats is just a B- class fighter, but to win now pretty much shot is great.

It was great how he won also, adjusting after nearly being taken out, showing what a great fighter does in the worst of scenerio's and then coming back to KO Katsidis in a very exciting fight. Sometimes a fighter does themselves a great credit past their best by showing their will, craft and intelligence and Casamayor did this.

After all of the criticism's against him and his style, which provided some less than exciting fights, it was really great to see him in a great fight even though it's not the best for an aging fighters health.

He does the Cuban tradition justice in the end and is scheduled to fight Juan Diaz next, a fight that I don't give him much chance in, but if he does manage to pull out a win due to craftiness and a perfect gameplan, there should be no doubts that Joel is a cemented ATG fighter, maybe on the lower end, but right there.

Here's to the great Joel Casamayor.:worm

Well written and well put, Amsterdam.

btw, is this train of thought related with RJJ vs Calzaghe?

    Katsidis is sluggish.

I liked this fight a lot too.. No doubt I was rooting for Katsidis, but Casamayor fought great.. The knockdowns were so exciting and Katsidis still added pressure, but Casamayor was able to stop him.. I would like to see a rematch between these two in the future sometime..

That was a wonderful fight. If Casa was anywhere close to his prime, Kats never would have made it out of that 1st rd.

Was a great fight and both guys fought well...

I do feel that Casa was on the decline before the KO though. He was getting out worked by a strong and focused Katsidis who atleast came close to being in front again come final round with some great adjustment after the 2nd round. And I gotta say I think it was Kat's school boy error that won the fight for Casa, who just had to stay calm, use his experience and avoid a wildly aggressive almost amateurish attack from Kat... Credit to Casa as a boxer for being able to capatilise and stop the fight as a result.

    No props for Katsidis?

That was a great month for boxing...Starting with the FOTY in Izzy/Rafa and finishing up with the fun double card of Katsidis/Casamayor and Andrade/Stieglitz.

Very impressive win by Casamayor. Started out great flooring Katsidis twice, got beat up in the middle portions of the fight, and adjusted yet again. I think this win put him in the Hall of Fame for sure. I'll probably get some criticism regarding that statement, but Katsidis was the favorite, an undefeated title holder, and a damn near shot Casamayor beat him in convincing fashion.

And how about Katsidis? Limited, wild, but fun to watch. He has the heart of a lion.

I agree with you on both.. I think Casa was already a future HOF'er before Katsidis, but beating an undefeated young contender surely helped.. Beating the likes of Santa Cruz, Corrales, and even Campbell.. He still has some gas left him in and beating Juan Diaz would definately put a lock on it..

I believe Katsidi's still has some improvements to work on.. More accurate, less wild shots, a good defense, etc., and I think this kid could be a big contender in the lightweight division.. I do like watching him fight though.

I was one of few people who pick casa over katsidis. Great win, it shows an old master outclassing a young and strong fighter. Great performance:yep

But now against juan diaz i don't know..I was a 100% sure casa would beat katsidis but against diaz i think he has a little chance. I'm not gonna be surprised if he quit just like the others but definitely i'll give him full props if he pulls it off. If casa bring in his A game, i think it'll be an ugly fight much like hopkins-calzaghe with him pulling off a close decision.

Casamayor is an old school veteran, nothing but respect and props to him. He deserves a big pay day and he deserves to retire in peace!!!

It was great to see the old fella pull it out against a young, hungry (Yet limited) fighter. I was really impressed with the heart Casa showed and how he proved he is still world class while being years past his best.

Casa fan for life :happy :happy
