I've mentioned his name a few times here as Tony F. Klompton might know him as well. The late Tony Fosco's collection is for sale. Tony was one the premier film boxing collectors out there.

The asking price for the entire collection is $250,000.00

I have asked for a list of the collection, not because I'm going to part with that amount of cash, moreover it's a rare chance to see a list of confirmed matches.

interesting. Could you put up some of the more obscure fights if you get the list?

    List of fights and quality?

I happen to know a person who won a HUGE lotto prize. The asking price you mention would be peanuts.

I bought from Tony approx. 13 years ago, and though the quality of the fights were good...

it was simply a copy of his copy, be that original or copy, I can't say... and the tape and it's case was 'pre-used' and nowhere near new.

never the less it was a bit 'cheap' for the then price $265.00 for about 10 fights.

he undoubtedly has tens of thousands of fights, I wonder though how many would be truly rare fights(?).

R.I.P Sir, God receive your soul.

    Woller,

Here's what I know. For openers I never dealt directly with him. I know someone who knew him and because of that was able to get some stuff.

His wife is trying to sell his collection. This means his trading partners are going to have some competition. This also means his list of fights, is not going to be a secret!

These collectors are a paranoid lot, often trading films they should not be trading in exchange for something they want. Sometimes they "ahem" claim to have something to draw you in, then offer something else.

The list of the fights is colossal. My primary interest is in a confirmed list, then if there's something I want I can make an offer for a copy before the wife sells the whole thing.

I have no idea about the quality. Likely good on some, poor on others.

Would you mind sharing what you purchased? I think 10 fights these days is a lot cheaper. The internet and CD burners have lowered the value of all boxing films.

There are quite a few confirmed films that are " lost " that I would offer a good amount for.

    Tom Sharkey vs Kid McCoy
    Peter Maher vs Joe Choysnki
    Jim Jeffries vs Jack Munroe
Jim Jeffries vs Tom Sharkey ( more than what is out there )
    Harry Greb vs Gene Tunney
    Harry Greb vs Mickey Walker
    Jack Dempsey vs Fred Fullton
    Bob Fitzsimmons vs Jack O'Brien
Bob Fitzsimmons vs Bill Lang ( Full fight, not the last round )
    Terry McGovern vs George Dixon
Joe Louis vs Pailino Uzcudun ( full fight, not just a clip )
    Anything on Elmer Ray
    Anything rare on Joe Gans
    Anything rare on Jimmy Wilde
    Anything on Marvin Hart

One of the above might be in Fusco's collection. It's plausible

I'd really like to see Klompton add to this thread.

    British 1930s & 40s for my research.

Len Harvey, Ernie Roderick, Jock McAvoy, Freddie Mills, Bruce Wood****, Don ****ell, Randoph Turpin. ALL of which were later put up on YouTube within the last 5 years or so.

I actually paid less for ALL the Marshall Cavendish Collection, including the magazines that came with the tapes.

anyway as I said the quality was fine, but not a well put together package for the money at the time.

Tony was a good friend of mine. I have his list

Tom Sharkey vs Kid McCoy No
Peter Maher vs Joe Choysnki No
Jim Jeffries vs Jack Munroe No
Jim Jeffries vs Tom Sharkey ( more than what is out there ) Maybe a little more, not much
Harry Greb vs Gene Tunney No
Harry Greb vs Mickey Walker No
Jack Dempsey vs Fred Fullton No
Bob Fitzsimmons vs Jack O'Brien No
Bob Fitzsimmons vs Bill Lang ( Full fight, not the last round ) More than the last round, not complete
Terry McGovern vs George Dixon No, although a mutoscope of this fight exists and Ive watched it but Im not convinced its the actual fight. I think its a repro, a friend of mine thinks its real.
Joe Louis vs Pailino Uzcudun ( full fight, not just a clip ) Hmmm. I cant remember if this exists full or not
Anything on Elmer Ray No, but I have a radio broadcast of his fight with Walcott
Anything rare on Joe Gans No
Anything rare on Jimmy Wilde What constitutes rare? Anything "rare" on Wilde he purchased with me or got from me but I think most of the stuff I have I acquired after he passed away.
    Anything on Marvin Hart No

Oh man. A three-pack of VHS tapes used to cost $10. Beta tapes were like $25 each.

Now you can buy 100 blank DVDs for $25.

Or collectors would ask you for $5 so they could mail you a printout of their boxing lists, which were the size of a phone book.

It's much easier and cheaper now.

Is it complete? I cant remember. I have the same copy Tony did but I cant look at it for the reasons we discussed via email.
