Great performance by Marg. Cotto would've won had he fought his fight though, I stand by that.

He did fight his fight for 7 rounds and it worked. After that, Margarito forced his fight upon Cotto, which is when it started falling apart.

Anyway, I agree. Tremendous performance. I think people underestimate just how hard Margarito is too beat. When he's on form, he's an awesome fighter. He has many technical faults, but his physical and mental attributes make up for that in the same way they did for George Foreman.

If 15 rounds were still in place, he'd be an absolute nightmare. His biggest problem is that he starts slow and it takes him about 5 rounds to get into his rhythm. With his stamina and chin being top notch, most elite fighters in history would have problems as the fight gets into the thirteenth or fourteenth, because he'd still be throwing 100 punches per round.

He boxed and moved throughout the fight, only using head shots. Headshots are not the way to slow down a granite chinned pressure fighter. He showed no ability to clinch when under pressure either. Had he fought his fight, which would be to meet Margarito on the inside, go to the body, and get the better of him there, he'd have gotten the better of him, and slowed him down in the late run.

margarito was breaking cotto down from the start of the bell of the first round. cotto landed earth shattering shots but margarito simply ate them. cotto just folded under the pressure. cotto is not a stick and move boxer, and obviously couldn't stand toe to toe with him,

Cotto tried fighting his fight. Margarito didn't allow it. Not to mention it's harder to attack the body or clinch when a stronger guy is guarding his mid section as well as margarito did.

He has skill but mostly he gets by on god given physical assets (size, chin) and intangibles (Will, toughness), plus his work ethic and commitment to training. Put it all together and you've got an exceptional fighter. I wonder, does he remind anyone else of Marciano? I mean, an unstoppable punching machine who always keeps coming, won't back off, can't be hurt, smothers his opponent with punches, hits any target available, unreal stamina, rock hard chin, tough as nails, gets stronger as fights go on ect, ect.

You realize why he didn't fight his fight the whole time right? Cotto didn't fight w/ a bad strategy, he wasn't allowed to to stay in his game.

Not really. Marciano didn't throw in numbers, he was a murderous puncher also.

If you have Margarito's chin and commitment, take away the volume and give him a heavy right hand, that would be Marciano.

    Either way, a nightmare.

I disagree, Cotto backing up and circling the ring against the ropes was a horrible idea. Once he started to get tired instead of rolling with punches and dodging, he started just absorbing to conserve energy. Cotto also had no body attack what so ever. And he should of pumped his jab more.

    :patsch

You fail to realize Cotto had no choice later on. You think it's as easy as saying "Oh, he shoulda just done this and he'd win!"

    simpleton....

No Im saying Cotto came in with a wrong game plan.

Cotto lacked the stamina for his gameplan.

Cotto had the stamina until Margarito started landing the left hook to the body, which didn't take very long.
