This has already been accounted for by chin theory.

    Remember - always contrary points.

One poster named some, so you have to apply the current chin theory to them.

I have to go now. Continue and behave.

Remember: I want to see concentration and sensible behavior.

Zak will comment in due time.

It makes sense that chins would get worse with age, as other aspect of boxing abilities do. Now, does this mean that will happen in every case? Of course not. But I think it would be reasonable to assert that, on average, a fighter's chin is going to get worse as he accumulates punishment and he will be more susceptible to getting KOd. This will be particularly the case, as with Rahman or Jones, when their chins weren't exactly rock solid to begin with.

Of course all fighters do not start with the same level of chin strength, which accounts for why fighters with good chins still tend to be pretty impervious to punishment, even later in their careers. Of course, this isn't always the case either. For every generalization there are always "outliers," i.e. exceptions to the rule.

    Scientifically, why?

    Thank you, Zak.

With Rahman, would you care to give examples of cases in which his chin has softened?

Is your physical strength the same now as it was when you were in your 20s?? If you haven't reached your late 30s and early 40s, perhaps you haven't had personal experience with this, but your physical abilities, your strength, everything really, decline as you age. It's basic human physiology,

The REAL question should be why some individuals Do NOT experience a decline in punch resistance. I would argue that they are, when you look at the mass of humanity, anomalies.

Feather-fisted Taurus Sykes rocked him in a recent fight. I doubt that would have happened earlier, even with Rahman's shaky whiskers.

Let me be clear about one thing, though - I don't think Rahman's decline in punch resistance has been as steep or notable as Jones'. Rahman's chin was worse to begin with, and while it has probably diminished somewhat, it didn't fall off a cliff like Jones did.

No answer, there's a surprise. I'll give you another chance.

Scientifically, not based upon speculation, why would age and chin-specific punch resistance be related?

Upon what are you basing this idea that Jones's chin "fell of a cliff"?

Do most fall off the cliff, or is it a gradual decline?

Anybody with any sense should know that a fighter's punch resistance deteriorates over the course of there career. It's going to happen when you take shots, especially a lot of shots.

So where's the proof? You can't just point to guys getting stopped more regularly, because other intangibles are decreasing aswell.

This is what we are discussing with our friend Zakman in this thread.

We want to use examples and counter them, instead of declaring an answer, especially one based on common sense. Common sense is often wrong.

So, we will let this continue.

Empirical evidence. He seemed to be taking punches just fine, and then he started getting starched.
