    Astonishing.

alright...wait...I didn't want this to be a crocop vs aerts type of thread but since you guys are mentioning crocop and comparing their achievements here's my opinion...

Yes , Aerts had a fantastic career in K1 and not only that , He also happens to be a legend in this sport. He holds victories over Schilt , Hoost , Hug (all in their primes too)...

Aerts also happens to have several incredible records (more info at)
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Aerts

And He had a reputation to have some of the deadliest Highkicks in the business. (Hoost had some of the very best low kicks though)

    with that said....

Aerts wasn't perfect , (nor was Crocop)....And comparing both careers is unfair.
    In crocop's defense...
Well , He did beat Peter Aerts in his prime , and Aerts couldn't do **** against the guy. (and remember , Crocop wasn't at the peak of his career back then
    either).

Wanna compare a Pride OWGP and a K1 world grand prix?
Easy...Aerts woulda get submited in no time under MMA rules...
    So why compare?
    Why bother?

It's like comparing Nadal's domination on clay when we know that Federer pretty much owns Him on every other surfaces.

Crocop deserved that ****...and He had to work for it...He dedicated half of his entire combat career for this.

We can ***** about his inconsistencies as a fighter yes...but He's got His qualities too..
And His highkicks were also some of the best in the business..
Actually , they're some of the most powerful too...

The reason why Aerts used to have a more important KO ratio (per highkicks) is because unlike Filipovic , He uses his shin (a lot more).
Mirko on the other hand , uses his foot... Andy Hug for example , used to use the back of his Heel a lot more than anyone.

Crocop had victories against Aerts , Bonjasky , Feitosa , LeBanner , Musashi , Bernardo...

(Btw Bernardo defeated Aerts 3 times in a row in his prime too)...
Crocop also had victories against Hunt , Greco...And though he never was able to beat Hoost , let's not forget that Hoost lost twice against Sapp...(yes , Sapp was cheating all the time but he tried his cheating antics against crocop too)...

Crocop had a respectable career in K1 and a fantastic one in MMA too..
Aerts had a monumental career in K1....both are fantastic fighters , both have a different kicking style....let's keep it at that..

He did go down once vs Crocop (not in mma but under K1).
He also went down against Nakasako (also because of a highkick though Hunt knocked that guy and still won the fight).

Jerome LeBanner almost KOed Him in Paris back in 2002 (also because of a highkick)...actually , the closest Hunt ever got from getting KOed was always against JLB...

Crocop had the potential to KO him in MMA but unfortunately He was Injured that night (which is why he was wearing shoes)...He wasn't at his full potential...But yeah , Hunt's head is abnormal.

Aerts is the better kickboxer, pretty clearly, 3 K1WGP's vs 1 majority decision. CroCop is the much better MMA fighter.

My favorite KO on that clip is the one on Andy Hug, for the noise it makes, at 27 seconds.

That Grand Prix was the pinnacle of Aert's career, for sure. Three fights, three first round brutal KO's.

Mirko definetely kicked faster than Aert's, harder is very arguable, but thing you are missing is Aert's supreme timing. He was the best ever at being able to slip that kick in right as they broke a clinch or right as the opponent dropped his guard a half inch. Mirko was never able to get that mastered and time and time again he was booting the other guy right in the gloves while Aert's was drilling his shin into the guy's skull. That's another point, Aerts's always made better contact because of his longer legs and the way he sold out his balance and took a fall if the kick missed. Mirko often, and still does, land with his instep which has given him numerous problems in recent years with bone damage to his ankle.

When you get down to it, K-1 in the late 90's had about 20 guys who all could beat each other on any given night. Mirko and Aert's were both spectacular, but you can not argue against Peter's supreme performance when it was all on the line and Mirko's failure to deliver.
