One of the worst performances from a world champ I have seen

it was a close fight that porter could have fought smarter, he wasnt shut down by kell or anything, kells a good fighter but as usual everyhting is being overblown

 

Porter fought like a barman

 

Brook made him fight like that

 

Brook made him look that bad. He was up against a better man so there wasn't much he could do. Brook was too strong and smart to bully on the inside and his jab, right hand, reflexes and timing made it difficult for Porter to do anything on the outside or at mid range. Trying to jab Brook wouldn't have helped. Styles make fights. As others have said, Porter will have success against other fighters.

 

Ok we have to give Brook credit but, Porters inside game was poor. I understand why he chose that strategy, but to me the fight wasn't even competitive.

Porter landed decent body shots but nothing really effective. His shots looked like they were clipping Brook and not landing flush.

 

Same reach though

 

Porters style is horrible, you can have a go at brook for holding but what else can you do vs that style? He dives in raps his arms round you then the starts throwin punches to the back of the head.. and trys to bully you and overpower you. The only way to stop that is hold him.. terrible style. I hope hes right when he said he has 4-5 different fighting styles because people will now see if you stay composed, hold on the inside and beat him on the outside you'l win the fight fairly easily. All porters hoping for is to get lucky with one of his wild shots.

 

Can't agree, this was a very poor fight to watch and I didn't think either fighter looked all that great, Porter was just worse. Brook won it for me on having 1 to 2 good flurries per round in later round, whilst Porter was charging in brainlessly trying these hooks which were not hitting the target.

I do look forward to Brook having some higher profile fights now to see what he can do, he does have some skills.

 

The clinching negated inside fighting. Brook held, the referee never warned for it.. he did what he needed to win..

 

Brook did hold and Porter was hitting to the back of the head and the ref told both boxers repeatedly to stop. Porters inside game was wild. Look at James Toney on how to fight on the inside. Fs look at Hatton.

 

Indeed and this was still a close tough fight for both of them, many people seem to overlook that.

 

Brook held but Porter rabbit punched him in return, which is why the referee didn't do anything about it.

 

So Brook made him fight like a caged animal

I've heard it all now.

That was a performance Ricky Hatton would've been proud of, rabbit punches, bear hugging, head down bull charging, swinging like he is doing 60 swimming strokes per minute.

It was a disgraceful advert for the sport to have a world champion fight like some 10 year old putting gloves on for the first time.

 

Porter isn't that great an inside fighter but he had to fight that way because it was his best chance winning. You mentioned Hatton and I think Porter is similar to Hatton in that he's not actually that great on the inside even though he likes to fight there. They both also rely on being stronger than their opponents more so than skill. Porter is good but not all that great and whilst strong, simply isn't that great on the inside and is (or was) a little over-rate and one dimensional.
