True, they shouldn't, but refs are human and it's not unlikely that Lewis had worries about Enzo's punch resistance going into the fight. I'm not a big fan of him as a ref, but to be fair Enzo had just taken a big shot, was covering up as if he'd been hurt, got caught again around the side of the gloves and for all we know could very well have been on his way to getting seriously hurt again.

Remember, this isn't a normal boxer we're talking about here. Macca's lights can go off in a shot. Lewis was in an awkward situation and yeah he messed it up, but I can understand why he took that decision in the first place.

Decision should maybe be rescinded though. No contest sounds fair.

A ref still has to be objective not let a fighters reputation jade their judgement, what your saying is speculation as to what would have happened.

IJL has ****ed up too many times Enzo vs McPhillbin, Klitchko vs Briggs, Billy Joe Saunders vs Fletcher etc

Ridiculous, if he'd been sharper maybe he could've turned it into a standing 8 count or something - people would've still been like wtf though

If you've not got the stomach to see someone get their head snapped back and take a beating you shouldn't be in boxing. Go referee badminton or something.

Abysmal stoppage. Ref should do no contact karate contests.

Going into this thread i was thinking eh you have to take into account Maccas glass chin.
But watching that footage, Enzo was not even hurt in the slightest.
He took a decent shot, his leggs were fine, his eyes were fine, there was no wobble NO INDICATION WHATSOEVER that he was hurt.

WTF was that ref thinking.... i mean seriously this guy needs to be put back into the amateurs.
Refs that incompetent literally take away a fighters meal ticket.

The Calzaghe vs Manfredo stoppage was more justified than this, and thats saying something.

Yeah I remember that as well. ****ing awful stoppage and exact same look on his face. If I were a fighter I wouldn't want him reffing my fights

Seriously this was the same ref as the Vitali vs Briggs fight?
That fight was 1 of the most savage beatings ive seen and i was screaming to the TV for them to stop it for the last 4 rounds.

So now he stops fights after 1 decent shot that didnt hurt anyone? christ.

That ref would call a stoppage on a bloke shadow boxing in the gym.

Yes, that would have been acceptable - like when someone trips in public and turns it into a little jog.

The term "Brit stoppage" has been taken to a whole new level. Boxers can't even cover up and not throw back for a few seconds without the danger of being stopped.

I know. I'm more playing devil's advocate than trying to defend him. He's a very inconsistent ref, and should probably have his license rescinded or be forced to undergo retraining.

His performance in the Briggs fight was borderline criminal. At least here he wasn't guilty of endangering another man's life.
