I had watched this fight just the other day, but watched Thomas and Dokes interviewed beforehand, and both were confident yet surprisingly humble. All Franco said was that he would come to fight, and Dokes said he would be victorious. Surprisingly, they were both right:

Yeah, no one ever admits, "I'm gonna get the crap kicked out of me, but at least I'm getting a decent paycheck."

    Muhammad Ali:

“Old Archie Moore will fall in four.” (He did.)

“I am The Greatest.” (Damned if he wasn’t.)

He said both before their 1962 meeting.

I remember that Archie was very confident that he would win though.

How can you tell? You think he would admit it if he wasn't? Or do you mean to say Archie claimed to be confident?

Archie Moore vs Muhammad Ali, he was known as Cassius Clay back then, on Nov 15 1962, in Los Angeles, California. Ali won by TKO 4.

I should clarify. When I say "I remember" I always mean that I remember when I was reading or watching. As you know, I was not around back then, and have also never seen a fight live.

I seem to remember reading (for u Morlocks) that Archie said he had a new punch called the button that he was gonna use to button the Louisville Lip.

Archie was also credited with saying: "The only way I'll fall in four is by toppling over Clay's prostrate form." That just does not sound like the talk of an overconfident fighter or one who is just all talk. This was an experienced fighter who knew when to be confident and when to keep his mouth shut more than likely. I'm trying to find Moore's comment about the punch he invented to knock Ali out with, I think it was in the ESPN documentary on Moore.

Going in, Moore was ranked a spot or two above Clay in the heavyweight rankings by both Ring and the WBA.

I think it was the same punch as Lou Nova's "Cosmic Punch" which was going to kayo Joe Louis.

True, but I would put a lot more stock in Moore's word against Nova's any day of the week. I just think at Moore's age it just didn't have the credibility that would have had perhaps just a year or two earlier.
