When has 6-1 and a soft 210 been very big?

Layne was also notoriously weak. He had little strength, a complaint that Dempsey himself made... also, middling power, decent but not exceptional.

In regards to the KO, Marciano was softening him up very nicely. Attrition with an exclamation point.

He was a good size Heavyweight, he had an Iron Chin until Marciano wrecked it.

He was heralded as the next big thing.... Marciano ended that plan. I loved watching Marciano work on the inside against a larger opponent. He tore them apart. He would be hell on any Heavy weight 6' 3 or less. Watch how he chops at Layne from the inside, Layne was known to have power and some speed. Marciano bludgeoned him on the inside, and Layne could not push him off.... Great fight.

An Iron Chin? And after Marciano it was china? Layne weighed 193lbs for Marciano and he was flabby at the weight.

It seems we have another Marciano fanatic, who likes to highly inflate the value of Rocky's opponents, to justify the hero worship.

    If you are implying me.

I am guilty indeed. Marciano was a wrecking ball of a fighter, he would do well in any era.

He is top 3-5 ATG, and anyone who thinks otherwise has the right to their wrong opinion. :rasta

Brutal one punch KO and most one punch KO's usually come after an exchange of punches or rounds prior to unless it is a 1st punch 1st rd situation which happens occasionally and then we call the loser cold

This is my orginal post which Suzie ,"adapted" to make this thread

"Layne was put to sleep after absorbing a gradual beat down."

Any one who can find a statement from me saying Marciano did not ko Layne with one punch is welcome to paste it here.

    Gaol-posts, moving?:think

Layne was 6'1" best weight around 190lbs he was considered lucky to get the nod against Brion.
He was floored by Satterfield, Mathews,James x3, and multiple times by Charles. Layne was neither very big ,nor very powerful. Which quality large fighters did Marciano beat exactly?

Johny Shkor was a C level fighter who went 3-4-1 over his previous 8 before fighting Marciano. He fought once more and retired.

Carmine Vingo was a nobody who had beaten 4 fighters with winning records. We only know him because of the efforts of Marciano propagandists.

Joe Louis was a stumbling mummy forced to keep fighitng years too long by the IRS. If he was still even a viable performer he would have continued his career after the Marciano fight, given the size of his debts and his money making options.
