I have a question about Abraham that I would like an answer to. I'm serious, so if anyone can provide an honest explaination, please do. I keep reading about how AA is a great counter puncher. If this is true, how come Elvin Ayala, who lost TWICE to David Banks , came within 30 seconds of lasting the distance?:think
Did you watch the fight? Like I told you, Abraham stuggles against movers and counterpunchers. Ayala spent that entire fight running, and forcing Abraham to come forward. This is when he struggles, even against C class, as he does not effectively cut off the ring. He also struggles to prize open a defensive fighter, he's like Calzaghe in that respect, he'd much rather counter or go to war This is why you are very much mistaken when you say Pavlik is a bad matchup for him.
AA is no different than Miranda, he is a crude slugger with a nice defense for his head. He takes off most of the rounds and when he counters it is mostly with wide looping punches. He will get demolished when he faces a technical boxer who can bang, especially to the body. I would say if Marquez was 5 years younger he would definitely win their upcoming fight.
my answer to that is boxers have different game plans. i havent seen that fight but maybe AA had some other gameplan. btw his KO of miranda should justify his ability dont you agree?
It's not the point. Gary Lockett went 4 rounds, who wasn't even the best middleweight in Britain. Abraham has competed at a much higher level, and I've never once seem him stunned. It's an insane prediction.
If AA is no different from Miranda, why did he absolutely demolish him? If one fighter just destroyed another, it seems strange to say they are on the same level?
And Gary Lockett fought who? Are you trying to argue Abraham hasn't fought better opposition than Gary Lockett?
I said Abraham has competed at a higher level (than Lockett) and you started criticising Abraham's resume as if to say Lockett had done something in that class :nut
Good post Iceland -- it doesn't change my opinion about Pavlik's style being a nightmare for AA, but it is, so far, the only reasonable answer to my question.
I don't understand why you can't see Pavlik's style is ideal for Abraham, it seems like Pavlik is a nightmare for everyone  The more you come forward and throw punches, the more chance to counter. Of course Pavlik is going to completely outwork him and win most rounds, but we already knew Abraham doesn't stand a chance on points against Pavlik's aggression, especially in America. What he does have is a serious chance of knocking him out, you can't throw lots of punches and defend yourself at the same time I'm afraid. Also Pavlik's punching style. Straight punches, he doesn't throw wide or particularly quickly before Abraham turns into a turtle. They are going straight at the gloves, arms and shoulders unless he gets some precise bodyshots in early
Yeah, I doubt that very much too. The first few rounds would be Pavlik throwing a barrage of shots to Abraham's gloves and downstairs. Obviously, Abraham is fully capable of absorbing big shots. My guess is that Abraham will be very patient and wait for Pavlik to make a mistake defensively, leave an opening for Abraham to counter with a bomb. Abraham is a much smarter fighter than Miranda. He will come into the ring with a real gameplan. Whether he can execute that gameplan for a full twelve rounds without tiring or slipping up is another story. But I think this fight could be a toss-up.
