It seems that when Finnegan fought Gus Ruhlin, a renowned world class fighter, he came in at just 10-8 (A pretty close to even money fight). As this article shows, the smart money was on Finnegan. I sense a dive! :yep

There is the long awaited Finnegan McCormick round by round between two "magnificent specimens".

This appears to be the fight which threw Finnegan into the contender category, sounds like a pretty solid performance. Finnegan was obviously not the best fighter out there but it seems that since the start of this thread his boxrec record has grown to a bit of a more respectable level.

And here is some unrecorded Finnegan fights, which we have all been searching for some time. If what is said in this article, combined with what we already know it starts to become clear tht while Finnegan was obviously not the best fighter in the world or even top ten he was a little bit better than we first thought. note this article refers to him as the best fighter in the area. This probably alone earns him the right to fight the touring champion.
