I just recently rewatched Holyfield vs Bowe 1 and whilst I was still thoroughly entertained by it and consider it a classic,I don't think it was in anyway a close fight.I had Bowe in front 9-3 or at worst 8-4 which makes it a pretty comprehensive win yet it was still a great fight. Another example of a one sided classic is Pryor-Arguello which although Alexis had his moments, was pretty much dominated by Pryor imo.Yet this is still rightly considered up with the best fights of all time. What other fights have been relatively one sided but are still in your opinion classic fights?
In terms of rounds, I found Duran-Leonard I to be somewhat one-sided (though basically each round was competitive), but it was a brilliant fight to watch, and not just because of Duran's amazing performance. I thought Barrera won his 3rd fight with Morales handily (8-4 I believe) despite some good moments for Erik that made it a classic fight. The fact that it was so one-sided is what makes Jorge Castro vs John David Jackson an excellent fight, Castro was being outclassed and punished before catching JDJ cold.
Great call the Castro-Jackson fight, although it's a bit different to what I'm looking for here.It has to rate as one of the most dramatic and sudden turn arounds I've ever seen alongside La Motta-Dauthuille.
Score wise: I thought Pryor was a fair bit ahead vs Alexis. Inevitabilty wise: Sanchez-Gomez. Even though it was 'fairly close' on points, it was always going to end in Wilfredo being mashed.
In terms of a highly billed fight, amonsgt two great and unbeaten (at the time) fighters that turned out one sided: Jones Jr vs Toney warrants a mention. What a supreme and dominating performance Jones gave.
The first Dempsey - Tunney fight. The bobbing and weaving of Dempsey against Tunney`s excellent tactic. 120000 spectators! Tunney scored a clear victory, but it was a very interesting fight.
Believe it or not, Ali's rematch win over Leon Stinks in 1978 is considered historical. SO! I suppose it must also be a classic, as well... Though, I thought the overall fight stunk.... MR.BILL:rofl NOW! I popped a woody when 42 year old Larry Holmes schooled Ray Mercer in 1992 for 12 rds.... Not a real one-sided fight, but Holmes won by a damn good lead in the point scoring.... :tong In 1984, Wilfredo Gomez upset the odds and beat the **** outta a clueless Juan LaPorte.
Self delusion has always been one of Evanders great strengths/weaknesses. Hence his current quest to unify the Heavyweight title at the age of 46.:nut
Calzaghe-Lacy was a master class in timing and spacing. Hopkins-Pavlik also was beautiful to watch, though very one sided.
You beat me to it! George had some moments but he was up against prime Holy. It was an event and it lived up to it IMO.
