One small step for the Man , One giant leap backwards for boxing !!!

Many reasons. We excel in team sports like hockey and netball because we love team sports and pump a lot of finance into it. We excel at swimming because just about every town in Australia has atleast one local swimming pool (and we've got hot weather). Boxing thrives on poverty and areas where opportunity is limited like mexico, cuba, Russia etc. We've got it so good in Oz so why would anyone think of getting punched in the face for a living?

 

Interesting about the team sports dominating Boomer..and the fact that Oz is prosperous too. But you must have some deprived, marginalised people - I mean it cant be paradise, right?
What about the native Australians, ethnic minorities, ghettos, poor areas ravaged by crime poverty booze and drugs etc etc. I mean you do have those things, right?
Plus wasnt Oz originally settled by rejects and convicts from the british isles, ireland etc, countries with strong historical tendencies towards barbarism and violence for sure, and pretty much the inventors of the sport of boxing too.
Jeff Fenech is probably the only decent World level Oz boxer Ive seen and he was pretty crude.

We definitely have less fortunate groups in Australia, every country does. But even they have it good in comparison to the majority of the rest of the world.

That's why our para-olympians perform so well, because they receive great government assistance. And if you've got any Aboriginal blood in you and you want to take up a sport or study at a university you'll also receive great government assistance to help you out.

It's not paradise but we definitely have it very good here. That's why we have many people from India and Asian countries doing all they can to receive permanent residency. We all truly the land of opportunity.
