    Round 7

Concepción muscles Llover into the corner and gives him a taste of his own medicine from earlier, pinning him in place with the outheld left arm while driving in right hands from behind his back. Llover is able to wriggle loose and strafe out but finds himself trapped on the adjacent set of ropes almost immediately. Concepción is unrelenting, doing everything he can to surmount his deficiencies in reach and speed. Concepción taking several punches to get in one. Llover punches his way free of a clinch, slamming either side of Concepción's jaw with a right hook and looping left. The shorter man getting dominated now even worse on the inside than he was at range. FLUSH left hand for Llover, ouch.

    10-9 Llover

    69-62 Llover

    Round 8

Concepción is walking into short left hands poked into his nose; Llover using the rear hand sort of like a jab to check the advance of Concepción. Big power flurry up top by Concepción, missing six punches before Llover pushes his arms down and hugs to stall and contain him. Concepción gets in a stiff jab during a lawn-sprinkling of punches, missing the rest. BIG left uppercut to Concepción's diaphragm by Llover. May have knocked the wind from him. Concepción tries holding. Llover rips him with a left hand on the jaw. Concepción holds again. Uh-oh. End could be nigh. Oh wait - Concepción roars to life with a hard uppercut rushing in. Another. Llover countering with right hooks and left uppercuts, missing frantically at first as Concepción slows his roll, but then finding the mark as the Panamanian draws near. Hard jabs by Llover, paddling off Concepción's face. They clinch and Llover lands a rabbit punch as Concepción is bowed over and spinning to face him. Concepción is forcing a brawl inside, but pays for it - staggered involuntarily across the ring by a series of hard left uppercuts to body and face. Concepción tries holding but can't, overpowered and getting beaten up, Llover mixing in right hooks. Ref having a look. HUGE overhand left has Concepción out on his feet and it's over.

    TKO8!!

This event was promoted by Geronimo Peñalosa.

Man...prime for prime, Fearless Gerry vs. El Nica? Now that's a fun, competitive fight.

(there was a window around 2008 when they could've fought, but neither was prime...Peñalosa was winding down his career, Concepción just beginning his)

I've been waiting the last 24 hours with fingers crossed for word of an official retirement announcement by Concepción.

Based on yesterday, he's going to end up getting himself badly hurt. Unfortunately, the success that he did have (due to Llover being a little green and having not really stepped up in class prior) might just embolden him to make another Quixotic run. He and Chocolatito have unfinished business (they were actually scheduled to fight 11 years ago) so that may be his endgame here in this comeback - I can't think of a bigger payday for him - but even as shot as Chocaltito himself is now, he would annihilate the current slow-as-molasses version of El Nica. :shakehead:

As recently as 2020-2022 Chocaltito was still very much in the mix with some unlucky decisions against one of his top rivals. Yeah it would not be pretty.
