if you look at his career.......he has ALWAYS went out of his way to fight the # 1 p4p rated fighter in the world at the time.

In the past couple years.......Floyd Mayweather considered by far the # 1 p4p fighter in the sport. oscar fought him.

Manny pacman, now considered the ## 1 p4p fighter in the sport, oscar goes after him.

    In the past we see

    - He went after # 1 p4p 20 + title defenses bernard hopkins

    - He went after Top p4p guys Shane Moseley and Felix Trinidad

    - He went after # 1 p4p fighter in the world in 1996 Pernell Whitaker

Oscar LOVES fighting the best, the best of the best. I admire that.

Very true. Oscar gets a lot of criticism these days for picking and choosing his opponents, but the majority of his career has been spent taking on the best fighters available.

The decisions he makes at this point in his career (and his losses) will do nothing to diminish his legacy. When we look at the past greats and their decisions and losses in boxing, it did nothing to diminish their legacy. People need to look at the big/future picture. People wont take that into much consideration by then. I think Oscar knows that.

I'm pretty irritated about Oscars cherry picking of late, but I must concede that he did seek out the toughest challenges years ago. Certainly he showed more sport in calling out Quartey and Trinidad than guys like Mayweather have in seeking challenges. The way the Trinidad fight ended was dissapointing, the Mayweather fight was only a half of an effort, and the Forbes fight showed that Oscar is interested only in hype and money at this point. I resent Oscar filling Mannys dance card when there are other more interesting matches for Paq that will be put on hold . Oscar's priority is not getting hurt, and that doesn't make for dramatic fights.

Yeah but every time he does this... he gets beat. People criticize him because he get fights that he doesn't deserve, He is one of the main reason boxing is more about Money and pride than being the downright best boxer.

he didnt get beat against whitaker, who was the # 1 p4p in 1996. also you can clearly make a case he deserved the decision against tito in 99. split decision losses to moseley and mayweather show he was very competitive.

at the very least, fact remains he was taking on the top p4p fighters in the world. manny pacman is the # 1 p4p in the world, oscar is taking him on.

Delahoya has sought out the best competition and #1 contender in his career for the most part. My concern with his career is the fact that we haven't and probably will never discuss Delahoya vs Whitaker II, vs Trinidad II, vs Quartey II, vs Sturm II or even a second fight with Mayweather.

Delahoya will never and should never be mentioned in the same sentence as Ali. Don't get me wrong, the self proclaimed "Greatest" has had his fair share of questionable victories. Norton beat him all three times and was horribly robbed of the third fight. Frazier II was a questionable victory because Ali didn't land any significant punches the entire 12 rounds and Perez was letting him get away with excessive holding behind Frazier's neck. The same thing can be said about his victories over Jimmy Young and Earnie Shavers, questionable gifts at best. The Ron Lyle fight was a premature stoppage.

The bottom line is, Delahoya never went to war with his toughest competion. Ali did, even though there was no Foreman rematch. Delahoya is a coward and has no excuses for not giving rematches to Whitaker, Quartey and Sturm. Maybe Delahoya now understands that he was clearly outboxed by Mayweather, and the crowd noise for his every action didn't help him. The main difference between Whitaker and Mayweather in their fights against Delahoya is the fact that the judges actually paid attention to what happened in the ring. Whitaker beat Delahoya worse than Mayweather did.

No. The whole image on him taking on an elderly version of the Patron Saint of Mexico in 1996, gloating about the Victory, and then carrying the colors of Mexico to the Ring make us vomit. :dead
