I think it's a really good fight. I'm not a Clottey fan, nor do I rate him too highly, but it's an interesting fight. We know that if Clottey comes in at his usual weight, he will have upwards of 15lbs on Pacquiao, and possibly over 20lbs. No matter what the difference in skill is, this will play a huge part. If you look at what weight guys like Mosley fight at, if they were fighting someone 20lbs more, they'd be looking at facing Abraham or Hopkins. So the weight difference between the two is substantial. Let's not forget that Clottey gave Cotto a great fight. I think a lot of people underestimated Clottey before the bout, because they didn't know a lot of him and he wasn't proven, and assumed it was Cotto who looked bad. I don't think it was. I think Clottey proved he's a handful that night. I am looking forward to it. If it wasn't the replacement for a megafight, I think most people would also be eagerly anticipating it.
he uses it more often than a lot of people think. but he uses it to set up a head shot. and he hits hard and accurate enough to make his opponents drop their hands. but he usually only does this when his opponent is on the defensive... at least that's what I noticed.
Check out at towards the end, when clottey lands the left and comes with a right uppercut and misses, but still manages to be focused and in position to land the left at the end, that's great technique.
he beat cotto lets get that one straight. If you can outland someone and have him running backwards the final 4 rounds you win the fight sorry. his other loss came at the hands of a known cheater who had his gloves loaded. And clottey was winning that fight easily up to the point where he ****ed up his best hand, his left. oh yeah and btw, go watch the post fight interview between the two again. look how ****ed up margo was compared to joshua. What im worried about with this one is bob arum giving clottey some money to just throw the fight. Pacman was on the cover of times magazine for ****s sake, who knows what kind of deals are being made to protect him.
Pac is a great body puncher. His first knockdown against Cotto came behind a straight left to the body and his KO against Hatton was set up by a massive right hook to the ribs. Pac is a very underrated body puncher.
Problem with Clottey's lead right is where he puts his chin - pac man's speed of foot will keep him in the prime position to beat Clottey to the punch and drop the left on Clottey every time he hangs his chin out to dry.
Problem i see with this is that Clottey does not get any pop on the right hand because he fights so square, also when you land the right hand against a Southpaw its more about what you do after you have land the right more so than landing the right itself, Pacquaiao will be gone by the time Clottey tries to follow up because of his footspeed.
Sure, in theory he could but his traditional workrate dictates otherwise. Some other dude (a newb) summed the fight up in like two sentences in some other thread and he did such a fine job of it that I don't even really feel the need to even watch the fight.
One thing Clottey dont do is smother his work on the inside or get too close. Manny will be able to flail away like he likes but he will be hitting arms most of the time. Clottey just has to watch out for the straight left. His guard an catch any and all the rest of Pac's punches no big deal. Its not like Pac sticks out a jab or anything. If Clottey fights the right fight and goes for the body body body..then he can break Pacaroid down and just have him in retreat for the second half of the fight.
I think you're smoking something... Have you looked at Clottey? Margarito punched on him like a ****in pinata... And Clottey looked just like he did at the end of the Cotto fight... Like he had just gotten finished doing 12 Rounds of Ballroom dancing... I think you are underestimating how rugged and solid-chinned Clottey is.
