Guys like Solis, Guys like Arreola And I mean you guys PRAISE them for getting down to like 18% bodyfat wtf!!! There are guys out there working 8,9,10 hour days in some shitty job, that get up at 6 in the morning to go to gym, before going to work to pay the ****ing rent. And you got these guys, these boxers they don't have a day job, I mean what do they DO all day if they aren't working out? Sit on the couch and eat, and watch daytime tv? I mean there is no excuse for a pro athlete who only competes 3 times a year to look like this This content is protected No excuse whatsoever, to come into the ring looking like that, I do not understand it one bit. It is a lack of effort, it is laziness, it is wasting your talent and it is disrespectful to the sport, and to the fans who pay tickets and only ask that you do your best. Unacceptable.
It's simple, it's about eating the wrong foods. You can work out all you want, if you don't eat right than more than likely you will pack on the pounds.
I've seen far more obese guys than Arreola destroy muscular/fit guys. Body fat doesn't tell you anything about someone's skills or endurance. I'm sure there are guys fatter than you that run circles around you
Can we assume that you are consistent with your disgust with other sports too, because there are alot of NFL and rugby players who have guts and body percentages over 20%.
It depends. There are guys who can be effective wearing giant spare tires (like Ruiz Jr. and, on a lower tier, Esch) and then you have guys like Solis and Arreola who are clearly limited to an extreme by their flab and the lack of dedication to fitness thus directly causes them to underachieve. See the difference? Esch had a ceiling, and was able to hit it. Ruiz Jr. will probably reach his as well. Arreola probably won't, nor will Solis. Solis is the more lamentable waste of talent, by far. Even skinny Arreola wouldn't be all that great. His ceiling is still only "legit contender" (which in his current shape, he isn't). Solis, however... :-(
They're the ones getting in the ring not you. If they don't get in shape ultimately it'll hurt their careers, but its their choice as they're the ones taking the punches.

Point taken. Although technically 'over 20%' includes any number greater than 20, including mid 30s. A much more accurate way of contributing to the message would be to reply something along the lines of: "Further to Unsigned_userv2's message, the body fat composition of the defensive line of the SF49ers far exceeds 20%, and upon careful inspection one could speculate a body percentage around the mid 30s."
This isn't entirely accurate. It's about using up more energy than you're putting into your body. For example, I could eat 1,000 calories worth of junk food but burn up 2,000 worth of energy which would cause me to lose weight. Conversely I could eat 1,000 calories of healthy food and only burn 500 worth of energy so I would gain weight. It's just fatty and sugary foods generally contain more calories. I know this isn't bodybuilding, but during the muscle bulking phase most of them eat a high calorie diet (often including unhealthy options) to add additional energy to train as well as facilitating muscle growth. Google Michael Phelps 12,000 calorie diet and see the amount of junk food he eats during training yet is ripped to shreds. He gets away with it because he burns up so much energy.
Unfortunately for you, you are almost completely wrong. Many people feel the same way you do which is why there are so many overweight people in this world. Not many people understand what constitutes healthy food, and not many people understand why people gain weight. The fact of the matter is, the majority of your energy burned is via your basal metabolic rate. What people don't understand is that the type of food you eat and how much you eat will effect your BMR. People also don't understand that certain foods will signal your body to store fat and will also cause the fat in your body to be immobilized. You could eat as much as you want of healthy foods. It will not signal your body to store fat, that fat in your body will be mobilized and any excess energy that your body doesn't need, your body will burn off. I can almost guarentee you that the high calorie diet is very heavy in carbs, which will cause them to gain mass. Phelps is an anomally. He's an otherwordly athelte, and an olympic swimmer. Your average person does not train anywhere near the level needed to burn off as much energy as they take in from even the neccesary food they need. I go to the gym almost everyday. I've seen plenty of people there almost as frequent as I do, and they are still as heavy as always. Even looking at myself, I've gone to the gym fairly consistently for the past 13 years. Even while still lifting and doing cardio 4-6 times a week, I have gained 20+ lbs. in the past when my diet wasn't right. Excercise is a good way to gain strength, flexibility, and to tone yourself up. However, it is an ineffective way to lose weight unless you happen to be world class athlete training at an insanely high level.
