Canelo won fair and square, but he lost the 12th round knowing he doesn't have to take chances. I bet most of the volume awarding judges of ESB who don't recognize clean effective punchng when a slick Mexican does it decided on that round, but you see with the fight was openly decided, Canelo needed no strong rally and didn't pull one. Open scoring is a major buzzkill, **** this ****!

Good fight, good result, Trout good boy, but **** rules.

I agree. Imagine going to a movie and after every 30 minutes they tell you what's going to happen in the next scene. (shitty analogy, best i could think of)

Didn't we see this open scoring in a Klitschko fight or something? I can't remember. The other team basically threw in the towel because the fighter was already down something like six points after eight rounds.

I think boxing needs 5 judges. Discard two judges scores who are out of line.

Co-sign. Canelo basically gave the 12th round away because of that.

It absolutely ruined the last 4 rounds, I hate it. It forces boxers to do something they wouldn't usually do, Canelo didn't have to do anything the last 4 rounds.

BUT part of the reason it was so shitty was the disgraceful scorecards.

Open scoring blows! I thought it was really close and I'm sure both teams would have thought the same going down the stretch without OS, and pressed the action more. Instead Alvarez coasted.

Open scoring is utter nonsense. Pathetic idea.

yup. We were robbed of an exciting 12 round, because Canelo knew he had the fight in the bag and all he had to do is play it safe.

It's horrible. I can't understand why they do it.

It was done so that if the fight was going Canelo's way, he and his corner would know not to take any unnecessary chances. Trout didn't have much power but anyone can get lucky with a punch you don't see coming.

yeah I remember the O'neil Bell / Mormeck rematch with open
scoring, Mormeck ran the last couple rounds because he
knew it was in the bag.

Canelo was exhausted and might have been stopped late if he thought it was close and trying to win the rounds, instead of running and throwing nothing.

Opening scoring is FINE if the judging is FAIR. When the judging is is questionable then open scoring is pointless.
