his punch selection against movers. Paulie exposed Broner at times with his movement. Broner had to set is feet before he punched. Paulie is just a slick dude, and a hard dude to hit solid...and he also has a chin. Great learning experience for Broner. At times Broner wanted to throw the right hand, and he hesitated which showed me that he needs a sitting target. Broner didn't even try to throw wild or looping wild right hand. Everything is straight punches. Matthysse and Maidana won't run, and that suits Broner who wants a phone booth fight. Broner doesn't have a flair with his punches yet. He doesn't throw them like Jones or Floyd or Leonard-yet. Contrary to what many peoeple think, Broner loves to fight flat footed fighters or guys who don't move alot. Broner will stay right in front of you. That is his style. He won't run from Matthysse, Rios, Garcia or Maidana. Imo sluggers are tailormade for Broner Can Broner beat Floyd right now. Hell no!
The problem is that Broner got hit plenty the fight prior by a non mover Reese who's not a puncher. What real puncher has Broner faced thats even at half the level of Maidana, much less Mathysse? Broner in trouble!!!!
He needs to work on every element of his game... His defense is a sadsack version of Floyd's. His punch output is depressingly low. He is flat footed... I mean, this guy is going to be in SERIOUS trouble against a heavy handed fighter.
I agree, the world needs to see him against a guy like Maidana or Mathysse to see if there is any truth to the hype surrounding him. So far I have not been impressed by him in the same way I was with Mayweather when I first watched him.
I agree that would be very important work on. His use of the shoulder roll/philly shell was less impressive tan I previously assessed. That means he'll have to be smart and conservative when he's deciding what to throw against punchers.
Too flat footed. Needs to mix it up with some more movement and change his style up in the ring to throw his opponent off. His defensive shell is impressive, but it could be much better if he utilized his feet more to control distance. I agree with the OP as well regarding Broner needing to be set to punch. He started figuring it out later that he wasn't going to be able to get full leverage because of Paulie's movement. I think the comparisons to Mayweather are a bit far fetched. At 23, Mayweather could use the shell, but he was able to box beautifully and punch while on the move and off his back foot. I don't see that from Broner. I'm also questioning Broner's stamina. Based on his activity at times, it appears he's worried about punching himself out.
I agree guys like Rios and Maidana are tailormade for Broner but not Garcia who's much more complete than these two. Broner loves guys to stand in front of him and who are there to be hit. He tees off on them walks them down get inside goes to the body and breaks them down. If Broner ever fights Maidana or Rios he will put a demolition job on both of them because he can beat them at their own game.:deal Broner needs to work on his movement and throwing punches when his feet aren't set also his jab could use improvement as well.
Reese didn't affect Broner at all. That's a criticism that does not exist, and is reaching more than anything.
Reese hit Broner, repetitively. In a game about hitting and not being hit, Reese affected Broner. Of course his power won't affect him. Reese isnt a real man. He's 5ft 3 with boyish power. And Paulie hasn't got much better power.
