I will admit Euros are normally boring to watch fight for the most part, I think thats part of the reason the heavywieght division has suffered so much in the last 5 years. Most Euro heavywieghts rather back out of fights then step in the ring and take of business, I have lost alot of respect for fighters like Vitali and Maskaev who do what ever they can not to fight certain fighters. As Larry Merchant once said in a HBO telecast, "Joe Louis where our you I cant take much more of these Heavywieghts".

This thread is rather pointless, though.

There are exciting American/Mexican fighters, Tyson, Chavez, etc, and there are boring ones (Anyone made it to the end of Byrd/Williamson?).
For European figthers it's all the same. Lewis/Vitali was a great, exciting fight, as was Liakhovic/Brewster, but for instance Valuev fights are rather boring. It all evens out.

My proof is that the Heavywieght division is all 4 title holders are Euro Iggy,Wlad,Maskaev, and Chageav. The only active fighter in the heavywieght division that attracts PPV fights is a 44 year old Holyfield, I do blame the US fighters for not bringing up better fighters, but it doesnt help when 2 of the 4 champs back out of fights that would help the heavywieght division gain a little popularity not to mention that Vitali Bitchko who has backed out countless amount of times instead of getting in the ring and fighting.

PPV numbers in america is an an american problem, how is that a reflection on european boxers ??

for instance all the above fights went out on free to air tv in europe and were watched by millions and millions .

american tv and audience are very insular must be the american tv execs view which is why they never showed these fights stateside.

the heavyweight division has never been so popular, its just from an american perspective at this moment it might not be , but there again america only makes up 2% of the population.

take a step outside america and you will see if having european champs is harming boxing.

IMO it is very good for the sport.

 

The people who say that Euros don't give exciting fights havent seen Briggs vs Admaek I and II.
