As far as I know Alexander draws well in his hometown, and Bradley not well in California. America's really big though, driving from California to Detroit is like doing about 4 circuits of our country, I wouldn't do that for any fight. The promoters should have considered this and put it somewhere people could watch it.

I know what you mean about the size of the country, but that's why I worded it like 'hit the road' - I was implying that you make a road trip. You get people travelling further and more expensively across continents to support their teams and fighters. I was just demonstrating that although they may be able to draw fighters in their hometown, it's not exactly a hardcore dedicated fanbase.

Americans have never really been that kind of fan. The guys who have drawn well there have either been well known generally so attracted local fans or are of an ethnic group largely found in that area, Margarito drawing well in LA amongst Mex-Americans for example. I guess due to the size of the country they don't do the travelling for sports thing like us in England or other places in Europe.

Yes - I completely understand that - and I wasn't expecting each fighter to have 10,000 fans in tow, but less than 200 fans travelling to see each boxer?

What I don't get is where are each fighters fans? They don't have more than 300 fans willing to travel to to watch them between the pair?

The lack of ticket sales has nothign to do with America's lack of support for their fighters. It has to do with a shitty location and venue for this fight.

Its perhaps the equivalent of having Erdei vs. Wlodarcyzk in one of the 2004 olympic stadiums in Athens,Greece.

It is disapointing 2 of Americas best young fighters have so small a fanbase. Chad Dawsons the same. That's the state of US boxing outside hispanics unfortunately.

No one wants to go to Detroit, even to see their favorite fighter. Vegas, Chicago, Memphis...I've travelled to those places for a big fight but I also knew I could make a weekend out of it because there was other stuff to do. Detroit in January? No thanks.

Its not the venue. Its the fighters.

Andre Dirrell did 7,000 plus in Detroit against Abraham. UFC card recently did 15,000 in Detroit.

Devon and Timothy just havent been promoted to the larger public.

So judging by the comments on this thread, is it safe to say the location is the problem? Don't be surprised to see this fight get cancelled in the next few days. :verysad

Not to mention the poor planning between the two promoters. I mean, it was 8/9 weeks before the fight and they still hadn’t kicked off their promotional work. Incredible.

I've been saying for a very longtime, Bradley is better off with a different promoter. I think his current deal is coming to an end, and I hope he ****s Shaw off.

Using Dirrell as an example isn't really relative though. He's from Michigan and would be expected to sell well there, same as Alexander in St Louis. What he is right about is the promotion, hype, etc. Dirrell even had the super six tourney and the fight camp series to push his fight. Bradley/Alexander has been shamefully under-promoted.
