That look on Mitchell's face looks like when Eric Cartman was trying to win the Special Olympics.

Just skimmed through Dan Rafael's chat and found this:

As always, Marley's word should be worth a grain of salt.

Who exactly is celebrating? You're a fool if you don't think 2,000 tickets is significantly better than the 300 Marley talked about. Another thing, Pacquiao and Margarito are big names compared to Alexander and Bradley who are new to tv viewers. It's gonna be fine if these guys only sell a few thousand tickets now, they'll be selling more if their fight brings the goods.

I am planning on going but haven't gotten any tickets yet...so this is good news for me. I used to go to the dome for Lions games all the time. So I will share my easy on/easy off/free parking spot with you.

Get off at Opdyke road and take it south and away from the dome, everybody else will be going the other way. Then make a right on Auburn rd and take that West to a complex on your right side called The Silverdome Industrial Park. Drive out to the very back of that parking lot and park. Walk over the train trussle bridge and in through the hole in the fence which opens up like an accordian. Watcht the fight.

On the way home, hang a right out of the lot onto west bound Auburn road, then hang a right on northbound MLK Jr. BLVD....hit your ramp clean to either direction on M-59. Honk and laugh at all the suckers stuck in the traffic jam as you roll by.

I'm not too surprised at the 2,000 number.

When a Khan fight is on, I see loads of press in UK (they have specials on him etc) plus him twittering like a mad man + thousands of people twittering back etc.

Khan/Maidana did around 4300 if I remember correctly, which is impressive its a UK vs Argenina fight, and only Khan's third fight in the US.

People complain about PPV but it is so much cheaper than going to the fight live.

The last fight I went to was Oct. 29th at DeCarlos Conventiion Center....Chauncy Welliver vs Brad Gregory and then pretty much all debuters and novices on the undercard. Every seat in the house was sold out. 200 VIP 25 GA. That same weekend, Bronco McKart sold well at Monroe high school and there was another card that did well at The Palace.

If this fight was Andy Lee vs Bronco McKart, they would have at least twice as many tickets sold.

Don King should have signed up Julius Long out of Romulus to face 1 of his HW's. They should have grabbed the new prodigy out of Kronk in Daulton....both guys will be out in West Virginia the week before instead. 2 out of town guys are not going to do it.

If they were really smart, they would have promoted it as a 5 dollar per person general admission event and tried to pack the house to top Hulk Hogan vs Andre The Giant. 1 last hoorah for The Silverdome.

If they did that, the people would rally behind the show, the news would publicize it for free in the papers and on TV, and then the guys would have an atmosphere worthy of their fight.

Any beginning economics student will be able to tell you that this show has a very steep demand curve. Only a tremendous lowering of prices will fill the place up.

When a card like this has a fixed price, it cannot negotiate with the market to maximize profits. In a real market environment, any other business is able to slash prices of excess inventory. Boxing shows cannot. The seats will remain empty and the value that could have been brought by them, through discounted rates, is lost out on.

IMO there is probably some business opportunity out there for anybody who can figure out a way to become an intermediary for this hugely underdeveloped asset in boxing. In cases like this, the intermediary comes in and buys a large block of unsold tickets at an extremely discounted rate and then turns around and sells them for whatever the market will bear via the channels that would be the backbone of the intermediary company. They would basicly have to have a grass roots system of selling tickets in a metro, or of getting sponsors to somehow provide the money for the tickets.

The charity angle may be the 1 that works. Having tickets available for local charites or organizations to purchase at discounts. Also have a fund available for people to donate towards sending some of the local kids to these events. And then with that angle, the boxing promoters, MLB, and other event people may be willing to deal their tickets with you.

Places like Kansas City, Detroit, and most of the midwestern cities could really benefit from having some intermediary that speacializes in filling unused event seats. Not Stub Hub resold ****, but completely unbought tickets. Witht he right model and market research somebody building this thing would become very wealthy. There is such a huge glut in unsold tickets for events from the big leagues to concerts to boxing...that even if you were able to facilitate moving 5-10% of them, you would have a gold mine on your hands.

The UFC card had to give away almost all of there tickets. Most of the people got in for free. And Dirrell is from Michigan fighting a superstar in Germany on a big stage of the Super 6. So, considering all of that even that did ok.

Dirrell/Abraham was In The House That Joe Built! It was a SMW version of Schmelling vs Louis....and I went online a week after they were on sale and I could not buy anything besides way overpriced back row ringside and then like 10th row and back upper deck. Joe Louis Arena is tiny...7,000 in there is very good for boxing. The Silverdome and 7,000 is 1 empty place. This fight needs 40,000 or more just to get the place rocking a little.

yeah 40,000 it would still be half empty. This audience is going to be embarrassing, i hope this is a wake up call for the promoters and everyone else involved. I will still be going just because it still could turn out to be a good fight but we know the crowd will be nonexistent

They configured the stadium to 15,000 so just getting 15,000 would be a sellout. They don't need to get 80,000 in the building for it to be a sellout.

Yea, they'll be lucky to get 1,500 people to buy this fight. It's a damn shame you put the fight pretty much anywhere and this fight does decent sales. If it's in St. Louis it gets an easy sellout 15, 20 K.
