In the short-term, yes. What about these guys' next matches?

Neither wanted to give the other guy hometown advantage. So they'll have to make do with chirping crickets in the stands instead. I'm not suprised though, there's next to no buzz about this even amongst us, the dedicated boxing fans. And no one else knows who these guys are because boxing isn't on tv in America except on subscription chanels only people who are already boxing fans get.

How much were your tickets? I'm thinking of driving up there to watch the fight live.

Site fee is 600K in this instance, and then whatever HBO paid for the fight. I guess it's all relative to the fighter purses, which I don't know. Either way everyone gets paid I guess, just sucks for the ambience and the fan bases of these two.

Don't worry, by fight night about 120 more will be sold and we'll all praise Shaw Hi and Don King (BTW why doesn't he call himself Emperor God instead?) for the fantastic promotion.

    Pathetic.

These two great fighters deserve a lot better than these pricks living off site and TV fee, doing **** all for promoting.

At least Don King will give out a massive amount of free tickets so it doesn't look embarrassing on TV...that is if they only zoom in to that one corner of that cavernous building.

This is embarrassing for our sport. Gary Shaw is not a promoter, he is a TV booker and nothing else. King might have made it work somehow but he is old as hell and his wife just died. We got morons running our sport.

You guys suck, a lot fo you people live near but dont bother going then open a thread why boxing is dying.
This is a great fight, and nobody is going. its a damn shame. If I lived there I would definitely go to this one and the donaire fight this month.

Its a combination of the economy, lack of promotion and the state of the sport. We just had a UFC card here recently and i think that did like 15K and the dirrell fight did around 8-10K with hardly any promotion as well (dirrells from flint). I am from the area and will be going to the fight but i have not gotton tickets yet. Tickets start at 25 dollars(ringside i believe $400). The economy here is just terrible, but its not just that (look at the UFC card and even the dirrell fight). I hope this is a wake up call to the sport

The promotion has been shocking. The poster HBO have done is great, yeah, but the one done by the promoters is absolutely AWFUL.

You could do that on MS Paint.

Who would want to go and see that? It reminds me of when the fake WWF would be wrestling in my town, whenyou had the fake Undertaker, fake Kane etc.. This is such a cheap, shitty poster, it's no surprise people wouldn't be interested.

People really dont understand how bad the economy is over here. We lost all of our jobs (GM), the detroit red wings do not sell out(they used to sell out months in advance!), i went to a pistons game a few weeks ago and it was about 35-40% filled. People cant spend their unemployment money on a boxing fight when bills are due and they havnt even promoted it at all on the radio. The economy is so bad you can pick up houses for free (not nice homes but still liveable) and houses that do sell for any money at all are going for about 30 cents on a dollar (based off 2003 prices) This area is ****ed!

It's f*cking Detroit! Everyone is broke, out of work or in jail. WTF were the promoters thinking? This was destined to be a colossal failure.

Now that i think about it...the silverdome was sold about a year ago for about 600k (the place was built 35 years ago for 55 million) even if you DONT consider inflation over those 35 years the silverdome still only sold for 1% of its original cost to build!! The place can hold 80,000 fans!! This fight hasnt even sold 1% of their seats...hell they havnt sold .05% of their seats, .05% would be 400 people...lol...think about that!

Exactly. It'd be a shame to see less in attendance at the Silverdome, wouldn't it?
