Pavlik, Wlad, Darchinyan and Campbell.none of whom would be in anyones top 10 p4p. does unifying not mean **** anymore.
Also recently Mijares was in p4p lists and unified champ until just recently. And also, a majority of current p4p guys have been unified champs at some point. so it does mean alot.
Only Wlad and Darchinyan have unified themselves. Campbell just beat Diaz, and Pavlik just beat Taylor, who beat Hopkins. Plus, there are plenty of other guys who would be unified champs if not for bull**** sanctioning body politics, like Chad Dawson, Ricky Hatton, etc.
Well, p4p lists are all about politics and popularity...they aren't objective. Even if you tried your best to be objective, it's very hard to be... ...take The Ring...they had Mijares at No. 8 on their p4p scale, because a lot of people went on and on about how good Mijares was and how he was underrated, etc. Now that Vic beat him, do you think they'll put Vic at 8 or above? Hell, no! Not unless people join the Vic bandwagon in a big way and go on about how great he is and how underrated he is, etc. And if they put Vic in the top 10, where do they put Donaire, who beat Vic, etc? Forget the p4p lists, mate...they just don't make sense...the more you think about it, the more you realise it. Yeah, we can all agree Calzaghe is better than Bute, say, but that's about it. How good each of these two are in relation to everyone else is impossible to determine to any extent that would satisfy most objective, knowledgeable, intelligent analysts...:good
Fighters can make more money with marquee bouts without the titles. There was a time when there were alot of unifications. The titles have been splintered in most divisions and of course most orgs do not work with each other from a ranking perspective.
Darchinyan is NOT undisputed. In fact, if anyone is undisputed its Pavlik. I mean last time i checked Montiel still has a belt so why would Darch be undisputed.
Darchinyan is WBC/WBA/IBF champion. He has all the world titles and is therefore the undisputed champion. See also: Lewis-Holyfield, Zoo-Judah, Hopkins-Trinidad, Bell-Mormeck, etc. We might not like it but that's just the way it is.
...in this case, if he hadn't ducked his mandatory challenger repeatedly, whilst promissing and signing contracts to the effect that he would fight him, and failing to do so.
