good post. although the prices would've been the same in the UK if the arena held only 20,000 or so, with over 50,000 they can obviously make it cheaper and get the same or better return

Calzaghe made the decision to take to NYC, Roy wanted it wales and Ricky Hatton isn't really bothered because he's ganna get a big fellowing where ever he fights so why not take the money of Vegas

Baseball, football, and basketball stadiums have been filling up.
What an excuse! Besides, the usual no mainstream promoption this fight is insignificant Jones is old and shot at nearly 40 and no one here knows Calzaghe! Only Calzaghe and his fans think it will enhance his legacy.

those stadiums are filling up because they have a bigger capacity so the tickets are cheaper, you think basketball would sell out at MSG at the same price? :nono

Before you say it's not the credit crunch, you try hanging out in New York for a week or two and see if people are spending their money or not. Right now everyone in the financial sector (who are the people who have money in NYC) is in fear of getting canned and holding onto every last penny in case they get stuck without work for a while, not to mention that everyone in the banking industry is on notice that any bonus they get this year will be a fraction of what they usually get (usually the bonuses are bigger than the salaries).

    ticket prices

all in all 7,000 looks good when you put it like that

The only non boxing fan here is you. We appreciate good quality fight. WTF is this. RJ has been KOed in three meaningful fight he's been in the last few years. If boxing is declining it's because of shitty matches like this. Just cause you "euro" will watch anything that lace on a glove does not make you better boxing fan. We have plenty of sports and alternative to entertain us here. Try and serve crap matches and no one will buy it.

I live on Long Island which is about 60 minutes from MSG. I'll be watching this fight from home. I'd love to go to the fight but here's what it means.

2 tickets for my girl and I = $300 min.
Round trip train fare = $38
    OR Gas & Parking = $55
Beers, Snacks, etc; = $35 min.
Dinner in NYC = $100 min.
    TOTAL- AT LEAST $470.00

$470 to sit 1,000' away from ringside watching a fight that's 8 years overdue and getting home at 3am when I have to get up at 6am to play golf! No thanks!

Unless somebody could guarantee me a KO win for RJJ. Then I'll find the extra $500!

I can't beleive only 7k seats are sold! Shoulda had it in the UK. They may have to 'fix' this one (didn't Calzaghe do the rematch clause....) so they can have another in the UK.... LMAO

It's not the money. It's the worthless match. NO ONE gives a damn about RJJ. Put someone else in with the JC and you'd would do better. There is no more hype around RJJ.

    ***UPDATE TO MY PREVIOUS POST***
I just searched for tickets. The cheapest available are $245/ea. + "convenience charges" and "delivery options". So change my previous assessment of $300 for tix to $532 bringing my new grand total up to $702.00!!!

Joe Calzaghe-Bernard Hopkins LOST money. They couldn't sell out in Vegas.

Calzaghe just isn't a big draw in the stagnant U.S boxing scene.

if the fight was in las vegas it would be close to sold out, i would of went, but fly to newyork, in the begining of winter, an avoid beging mugged by hotel prices, food prices, cab prices, an many crimmals they have there is not my idea of a good time,,,,maybe in the summer time it would been worth the risk, an the expense but not winter,,,,,,vegas, every thing a ten dollar cab ride away, you walk everywere,,,booze is free, food cheap,,,,
