It's **** all to do with the credit crunch. Knowledgable boxing fans see that this fight is a sham, and aren't interested in paying to legitimize it.

That maybe true but other fights could be seen as sham its all about how they sell it and how they sell tickets lets see Pac against oscar especially if oscar batters the smaller pac could be seen as a waste of money .

And Pacquiao v. DLH is not a sham? Come on! Those tickets sold out within 2 hours! Is Hoya in his prime? Are they well matched given the weights they usually fight at? Think about it!

Neither of them are shot to **** and have been for years. That's the difference. Don't get me wrong, I think Pac v Oscar is a sham too, both fights are what Tarver called "Celebrity Boxing".

I would so much rather be seeing Pac v Marquez III, Calzaghe v Dawson or Calzaghe v Hopkins II, and De La Hoya v Margarito or Mosley, or Oscar safely in retirement.

    Legitimate contests breed excitement.

Thats fair enough especially the pac JMM fight because that needs to be sorted out a definitive winner. If I were the boxing commission i'd make that fight fifteen rounds because 12 isn't long enough.

Oscar isn't considerably closer to his prime than Jones will be tomorrow night. And at least Calzaghe is not fresh either. And at least they're both fighting at their best fight...

...come on! You have to do much better than that! Americans just don't care. They didn't care about Calzaghe v. Kessler either, and that wasn't a sham, was it? How many bought the PPV? Very few.

The only reason why Pac v. DLH sold out was because Pac is huge with the American based Philippinos and because Hoya is the Golden Boy - a celebrity boxer.

Oh that is definately true in britain just look at hatton v floyd last year. I was at my mates who are casual boxing fans and after about 6 rounds i said don't be suprised if floyd wins now nad comfortbaly because he went into another gear. They couldn't believe that they said someone from strictly come dancing as knocked out hatton I said he's the best boxer on the planet me I took it on the chin because I knew it was a distinct possibility that hatton would lose.

Oscar is far closer to his prime than Jones! 18 months ago he took the world p4p#1 to an SD, and this year he beat Forbes arguably more convincingly than Berto did, and Berto is the next big thing. You have to do better than that!!

Calzaghe v Kessler did no business because neither of them are Yanks. RJJ is an American legend, but he's shot. Hence the lack of interest Stateside.

Jones was never a big draw, his money came the way of HBO, they gave him his millions, he like mayweather, can't bring in fans.....if jones fought hatton or dlh, he would sold out too,,,besides those two fights, i bet mayweather never sold more then 5,000 seats in a fight, i was at one his fights in vegas when he fought castillo for the second time,,,i was there to see wlad/mcline, which most of the fans were also, cause most came in late, or that is in time for the main event wlad/mcline,,,,an the ones for mayweather were mostly mexican, an castillo could been anybody an they would showed up,,,,,,,,HBO, gave mayweather an jones there big days, not the fans,,,,ruiz fight didn't even sell out....,I sure HBO felt for welsh an other people of the UK felt more comfortible flying to new york instead of las vegas,,,,,,an that calzghe wanted to fight there, his father a big fight fan, an probey remembers all the great fight there,..........an for the record HBO boxing is very profitalbe for HBO, :hi:

Can't give you a why, just a fact,,,,,HBO made him rich they paid him the money he has, not the fans. Like a vitali, wlad, calaghe an hatton, these guys fans support got them there money,:hi: ,,,Jones is like enron, don't know how he got rich, but he did

the hypocracy on this thread is truley astounding.

    post after post
    thread after thread
    year after year

calzgahe/hatton/klitchko/abraham/etc etc etc fill in any european boxer you care to name

"who knows who they are they need to come to america to make a name for themselves and get exposure instead of homecooking in europe."

i have read posts similar to this 100,000 times

yet what do we get on this thread.

    who is calzaghe.
    never heard of him.

not intrested in going to the fight

    not intrested in watching

    he has no fans.
we dont want to pay to watch him fight.
    he is a eurobum

"kessler needs to come to the usa to establish himself at the mecca of boxing

"who is kesssler , never heard of him, i dont want to watch him.
he should go back to denmark to fight in front of packed euros instead of coming to america to fight in front of knowledgable guide dogs , 3 usherettes/3 judges/1 ring card girl , 1 reporter /and 356 crying ticket touts having nervous breakdowns."

why do you call europeans to fight in america all the time if you really dont want to watch them ?

I've never heard any of these things said on this forum. A lot of xenophobic BS.

So Floyd's fight with castillo didn't even sell out thats strange I mean after their first fight you would think their would be a lot of interest. Just wondering I went to the castillo hatton fight I was amazed to see that their were many brits out their than actually americans in that arena. It maybe cultural because to be fair all us brits like to travel abroad whether it be football, boxing or even cricket especially to austrila for the boxing day test match.
