Duran was the the fighter that cemented Leonard as a huge star after the epic in Montreal, Benitez wasn`t known to casuals like Duran was, he was quite a big underdog v Ray and Hagler didn`t become a star until he also fought Duran who was far more known than Hagler when they met in `83.
Come on, now you're going to extremes to come up with examples to justify these poor ticket sales for Wilder/Fury. Leonard/Benitez was fought at Ceasar's Sports Pavilion and that 4600 seats was the full capacity of that arena, it was sold out, lol. It's not like the place was half empty, every ticket was bought. 2 years later when Leonard fought Hearns at Ceasars they set up an outdoor arena and the sold 23,618 tickets and again this was sold out.
I take no real pleasure in the fact the tickets are not selling, I really don't, it's not good for boxing. But what I do take some pleasure in is watching how quiet the abusive, loud, arrogant, delusional and in some cases stupid Wilder fanboys have gone the closer this fight gets. They were told it wasn't a big fight but they refused point blank to even entertain the idea this wasn't as big as they were predicting Who remembers the predictions of 1 million PPV buys? Nthey look so ridiculous now. Not many really gives a toss here in the UK, people are talking about Whyte Vs Chisora more than Wilder Vs Fury and you are just as delusional as Wilder if you believe UK boxing fans hardcore and casual are staying up until 5am and paying to watch Fury. Anyway, They haven't sold 10k of tickets 3 weeks away from fight night FFS, if Hearn put on a O2 show with the likes of Whyte or Chisora and/or a couple of others and didn't sell 10k.. he would top himself. Even Fury is starting to raise a few questions about the state of the sales. This isn't a big fight, it really isn't, it's a good fight for boxing fans but not casual fans and that's were the real big numbers come from. Now you Wilder fanboys are starting to learn why Wilder isn't worth the splits he and you lot were demanding, nowhere near, he would bring nothing but a devalued WBC title and delusion. This is why I say in terms of business and draw, Wilder Fury and the rest are nowhere near the level of AJ who is selling out 70-90k stadiums regularly.
What about Fury? He's supposedly the best heavy weight since Ali. But all the responsibility of ticket sales fall squarely on Wilders shoulders? Please stop the hate! I don't want to be biased towards Fury because of idiots like yourself, Please stop!!!
It's in Wilders country my friend, he is the champion, it's his show and so mostly his responsibility. You were all told Fury isn't a draw, we all knew, Wilder fans insisted he was. And don't forget Wilder fans were slaughtering AJ Vs Povetkin because it didn't sell out in hours, apparently the shine was coming off Joshua, it was all on AJ back then wasn't it? Well AJ Povetkin sold more than 7k of tickets.
Yes. LA has a deep, rich boxing history. It is a great fight town. From the Olympic Auditorium to all the classic Stub Hub Center wars, LA fans have always supported good boxing. The problem here is three fold: 1. Pricing. The $350 and down tickets sold out quickly but floor and lower level are way too expensive. Over $1000 to sit close to but not actually on the floor is insane. 2. Under card. It is **** but was supposed to include LA crowd favorites Leo Santa Cruz and Abner Mares in separate bouts. John Molina and Gerald Washington, also from LA area, were rumored to be on the card at various points. None are. Not a single LA guy fighting on this card. 3. Promotion. There's none. I live in Orange County and don't see any promotion anywhere. I have a friend who works for AEG and gets me all my tickets. He said they'll be discounting some floor seats and doing more promos over the next couple of weeks but even AEG told the promoter his lower level seat prices were too high.
One difference: Lewis was THE champion. Wilder is "a" champion and that's not really fooling anybody over here. Still, the promoter was given a great fight and a great venue and **** the bed on Wilder/Fury. I'm highly disappointed as an LA area fight fan who bought tickets the first day.
Probably down to the casinos not ready to put in. The casinos love a big fights which they know will get thousands in their doors as well as attract the high rollers for the weekend. They were likely lukewarm to front up the money for this fight due to not being convinced of the draw of the fighters.
Of course. Another guy who can't talk about Wilder and Fury without trying to make it about Joshua. What I find funny are Joshua Fanboys who were saying as late as two weeks ago the fight would never happen, said one or both boxers would back out, said Fury wasn't in any kind of shape, and now two weeks before the fight are now making up their own low PPV numbers and saying the fight is a financial disaster based on a 'feeling' they have. You've been wrong the entire way. Sorry if no one cares what you say now. Wilder-Fury will likely generate more PPV dollars than any of Joshua's $20+ shows. Millions have tuned in to watch Wilder's fights on TV. Those people have yet to even order the fight. It's weeks away. Crossover MMA fans will be buying it, too. The gate has never been a priority. Wilder-Fury are going to be fighting each other again after this. While Joshua will spend next year fighting retreads. All they have to do is give us an exciting fight. This PPV will do fine. And the rematch in the UK will be even bigger. And there's nothing Wilder-Fury sceptics can do about it.
PPV buys bring in more than gates. Wilder-Fury will make more in PPVs than Josh-Povetkin made in gate and PPV combined.
Lol it’s pathetic really and I ain’t wearing it that they didn’t know about Wilder as you only have to go back to his trip to Ireland to see how desperate they were to make it look like Wilder actually had a following. All that crap about Saunders throwing a chicken at him was clearly staged and him pretending he had crowds of fans shouting bomb squad was pure cringe. Frank Warren for all his experience is so desperate to get a one up on Hearn he’s prepared to gamble with his star fighter against a dangerous guy who has no exposure to the big time at all.
You said it,everything is staged inc the fight with AJ and Wilder. All those pathetic public negotiations are BS as nobody ever made a fight that way,I’m not an AJ fan but can clearly see when both teams are putting something off. If Wilder can’t put away Fury then seriously there’s something wrong as Fury hasn’t fought anyone since Wlad and has effectively been losing weight till now.
