Wilder himself has predicted 2.5 million buys. That’s 500,000 more than the current heavyweight record (Tyson-Holyfield II). The level of delusion is verging on parody now.
The Gypsy King sold 25,000 for his fight against the slug slow shot ghost of Pianeta who was D grade even in his prime and he was reported to have done 15,000 although the figure is disputed for that CW Seferi and both those 'fights' were glorified sparring sessions against scrubs.
The reality is that this is a fight between two boxers who could have mass appeal but divide opinion between boxing fans and generate little in the way of both PPV buys and ticket sales. The fact that Wilder is an undefeated, explosive heavyweight world champion who has never headlined a PPV in forty fights says a lot about his promoters and the state of boxing in America. The fact Fury sells so poorly when compared to the likes of Joshua, Haye and Hatton shows big issues with his domestic popularity and style. Add them together and it's not really much of a shock that it will be a big fight that does fairly average numbers. Ability is an interesting conversation but popularity really isn't as the answers are plainly obvious. I don't have a clue about who would win between all three but I know who'd sell the most tickets.
Going out on a limb here, but Wilder and Fury acting like clowns, running down the best fighters in the world while they themselves are either inactive or fighting tomato cans and making ridiculous claims about their supposed worth and the lack of worth of others isn't endearing them to the fans. The sooner they realise Joshua is the champ/superstar, other contenders such as themselves like Whyte, Miller, Usyk, Parker, Povetkin can pull the same if not more crowds/money, the better off they will be. Both being jealous and spiteful of Joshua because he can do what they never did makes them look like spoiled brats. You want all the fans and money like Joshua does? Fight him and take them from him and stop behaving like children looking for a cashout payday.
No question about it, Fury can talk the hind legs off a Donkey and there's no question that whatever the figure ends up being he will have been responsible for selling 99% of them. PS. To be fair to Donkey, that mascot was better than both of Fury's last 2 opponents.
Fury was on the undercard of Frampton and the crowd was there to see Frampton, believe me I was there. Fury selling 25,000 tickets for the Pianeta fight is nonsense.
I hear what you're saying. Fans can be over the top. Like I said before, I root against good fighters because of their fans. I did with G, Kov. I don't want to do it with Fury, Wilder or Usyk. I find it very difficult to root against Loma. He's too damn good!
I've had a quick dig around the net to find a link to back up this figure and, so far, all I can find are links to quotes from Eddie Hearn who says the sales haven't topped 8,000. Have you got a link with a slightly more independent source? https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/7708...old-8000-tickets-wbc-heavyweight-title-fight/ https://fightsaga.com/news/item/7352-wilder-vs-fury-ticket-sales-weak
Your post seems reasonable, except ... How do you know how many tickets and/or PPVs will be sold on December 1 ? You're talking as if you just travelled a few weeks into the future and back.
It might be worth one of them agreeing on getting injured and making this fight in the UK, if they are intent on making the maximum payday. However the TV money is the principle income for this fight. So they stadium itself being half empty was half expected. Just a shame they couldnt make a shed load from UK ticket sales. I suspect that there is a high likelihood of a rematch in this one in any case and its been agreed it will be in the UK.
Guys you know that they will fill it up with friends if it doesn't sell right? So you don't have to worry about it.
