Rocky was an excellent commenter and had an astute boxing mind. By the way what a classic bout between two masters Moore and Johnson

Did Rocky say mean to say only a sucker gets caught with a lead right hand? If so, there is some truth to this on the world class levels of boxing as lead right hands from orthodox fighters are not the easiest to land because they travel a greater distance than the jab's do.

Some fighters have flaws which make it easier to land lead rights hands. A few of them are: lower guards, lack lateral and horizontal movement, lack of head movement, boxing with their face leaning forward / chin up. Any of the above flaw can make one a sucker for lead rights.

So, with this, I guess Rocky forever edges Larry out in the barbs department too!

I suprised no ones mentioned Ali, he was always throwing lead right and landing them. one of the greatest at throwing the lead right.

Mc Callum was a good at countering the right with his right uppercut.

From what I understand, Rocky learned this maxim from Goldman. With that in mind, he may have found it infuriating to be decked by Moore the way he was, and used the resulting anger with himself to battle back from it.

Well it was on his show where he's reviewing one of the classic fights. I'd think he would be able to get the gig on his own show.

No, just once against Moore. It was a sneaky uppercut though. The Walcott one was a left hook.

Why are people saying Moore decked Marciano with an uppercut ?

    2:35 in slow-motion. That's not an uppercut.

You took the words right out of my mouth - I always think of Ali doing this - but then Ali did virtually everything amazingly - but yeah definately Ali for throwing lead rights - aswell as Archie - come to think of it Archie countered Marciano's right hand pretty well in that second round to

I'm not sure what you'd call that???:huh Was it like a bolo shot - kinda reminded me of those wierd Kid Gavilan type punches - but its one of my favourite punches all the same - a really great shot - Moore was like :hey how do you like that then - yeah I'm the man - and then Rocky got up and he was like, oh dear !:

It's a straight right thrown from waist height.

Yes, it's unorthodox. Moore does load up on it sneakily, almost like a hidden bolo, and puts some sort of "corkscrew" on it. But I wouldn't call it an uppercut.

Then again, I guess it doesn't matter what you call it. It's a right hand, that's not disputed.
I mean, I wouldn't call the punch that Tyson finished Spinks with an "uppercut", but that's what Leonard calls it, while I'd agree with the other commentator's description "short right".

So I suppose it doesn't matter what it's called. It hurts the same way whatever it's called.

I love ALL of Rocky's commentaries.

It's a shame we dont have anyone of his type on television these days.
And it was clearly a terrible loss for the boxing community when Rocky passed away so unexpectedly.
