Only BJ Penn could.....

Theres no reason in my opinion BJ cant translate his conditioning from 155 to 170. He was simply lazy at 170 and didnt have to make weight. Naturally his conditioning suffered as it was clear he didnt work on his overall conditioning and CV. If he has the same work ethic at 70 as he does at 55 he can certainly beat GSP.

GSP wasnt dominated for me in their bout, like some people seem to think..the first round was close, but the poke in the eye of GSP clearly affected him for the rest of the bout I think..but BJ have improved as well

Look at there faces after the bout. GSP`s was a mess. If BJ`s conditioning was sooo poor the fight would be have been down to the wire.

 

Exactly BJ bascially admitted that in 2006 he didnt take fighting seriously and didnt train hard even for the big fights and it showed when he was gassing quickly. He seems to be in that zone that Anderson and GSP are getting in where they arent going to allow them to beat themselves anymore. GSPs improved since the 1st fight but so has BJ. Watching that fight its so close GSP has them leg kicks working well but BJs outboxing him and busted him up,GSP was able to take him down frequently but BJ did more off his back with strikes and submission attempts. Id love to see these 2 fight 5 rounds I loved the last fight it wasnt dramatic but it was world class stuff.

What fight did you watch? I watched the one where GSP displayed brillaint ability to block jabs and crosses with his face.

 

BJ waving off the fight was hilarious. Only BJ Penn can go get blood off his opponent's face and lick it, too.

If any other fighter acted like that, I would probably hate them. But BJ Penn can back it up, and that's what I like. He's earned the right to lick some blood and gloat over a fallen opponent.

Plus, he seems to really embrace his "enemies" after the fight. He invited Pulver to train with him and all that animosity melted away.

 

He invited Sherk to Hawaii too, though I doubt Sean will follow up on that.

 

GSP doesn't have weak skin - that was the first time in 13 fights that St. Pierre really bled; and he was hurt, by his own admission. Penn was having good success standing against Pierre.

 

Sherk made a great point in the preview show before the event - BJ needs to be pissed at his opponent. He has to be mad to fight them. Some of his comments are based out of truth, but a good portion of it is just Penn hyping himself up.

how do you know he doesnt have weak skin? I mean, its not like he had a lot of blow on his face in all his career
