HitmanHatton, maybe you dont watch boxing "properly." What I mean is, when you look back on old fights I am looking for subtle differences that are made throughout the fight, whether it be closing the distance, circling to a different side, or changing the whole gameplan altogther, for me, that is what I love to watch in old fights. It is way harder to see when you are watching the fight live with a few beers or whatever, but when I watch them closely and sober, I love being able to spot the tactical differences as the fight goes on. It is afterall, the "Sweet Science."
Boxing is about the only sport where you could realistically enjoy watching it again 30, 40 or 50 years later. Along as we're talking about the modern era fighting is fighting and little changes, it takes a different appreciation to sit down and watch pre-modern stuff on grainy old footage. 90 mins of old football is enough to put the firmest insomniacs to sleep. Old tennis is a joke in comparison to the hard hitting game of today with those creaky old wooden rackets. Motorsports didn't exist in the same form.
You guys reminded me of Laurence Fishburne in Higher Learning: speaking the word to the new generation. I am reading the posts here and i'm amazed at how calm you've all remained, Keep spreading the word fellas, one never knows, we might even see young "HitmanHatton" starting to understand the derivatives of this beautiful sport and not being so crass or even the masses might stop thinking so linear.
