You, sir, are a complete sell out. You are a carbon copy of all those parasites you said you were going to replace for the betterment of the sport. "Make the best fights available" you said, "get back to the best fighting the best" you said. You once wrote an open letter to Floyd Mayweather criticizing him for waiting for the big names on his resume until they were past prime before he fought them. You said boxing was better off without him. Here we are in 2016 and we find you steering your prize pony in the exact same direction and using the exact same tactics. That level of hypocrisy is rare, even in a promoter. I am not blind to your responsibility to protect yours, and your fighters best interests. I understand the ramifications of suffering a defeat at this point in your fighters career, and how it will impact total career earnings. But I don't believe you are using sound strategy in your current situation. Either you are not thinking straight, or you are receiving terrible advice. The things Canelo has been saying, seem to indicate that you believe the GGG negotiations exist in a vacuum, that the balance of power in negotiations will be unaffected by future events. I think you need to wake up to the reality of the situation. Your decisions, of late, have been alienating the one sure segment of customers that your whole position of power in negotiations rests upon, the Mexican fight fan. They are burning their Canelo caps by the tens of thousands after Canelo surrendered the belt. He let the flag hit the ground... an unforgivable act for many. Why isn't he getting better advice? I assume, that you believe that Canelo's fans will stick with him, just like Floyd's did with him, through the whole "marinating" hustle. That would be more bad judgement. Floyd's fans didn't care what Floyd looked like to the masses, as long as he kept winning. That's what they wanted represented. Canelo's fans don't care as much about him losing, as long as he shows the heart of a warrior. That's what they want represented. Surrendering the most historic belt in one of the most historic divisions, without a fight, is not the heart of a warrior. Not after the historic "Mexicans don't mess around and I'll fight you right now" speech. The GGG phenomenon is growing fast, and Canelo's brand is taking so many hits, that by this time next year, GGG may be in a position as A-side, to dictate to you, the terms of the fight. What will you use to justify not fighting him, when his ppv buys start to match Canelo's and he ranks way above him on all P4P lists? A better strategy would be to take the GGG fight right now, while there are a million excuses you could use for him losing, and in a few years, when Canelo supposedly "peaks", you can sell a revenge rematch vs an exiting Genady. You get 2 big fights out of it, and you and your fighter get to keep your dignity. In less than 3 weeks, both fighters will take the stage in similar acts. This is a great opportunity to gauge where each fighter is at now as far as fan support and entertainment value, and how that will translate into negotiations between all concerned parties. I believe you are going to find, that you are not in a Paquiao vs Mayweather situation at all... kid casual has already seen that hustle. Sincerely, an arm chair quarterback fan of boxing.
nice one bandeedo , but like MJ said " they don't care about us " they only listen to numbers and ODLH will eat crow beacause GGG vs Brook has a good chance of outselling Khanelo
i dont get it, its like oscar is oblivious to everything thats going on around him. i think i liked him better when he was strung out on coke.
You are 100% right about Oscar. Nothing but a hypocrite and a sell-out. I just hope the Smith fight tanks so we can re-evaluate the a-side b-side thing
Agree with everything... But it's not about an L, Canelo already has an L on his record. He could lose and still be a cash cow. It's not going to ruin his marketability at all. How many losses does Oscar have, Leonard, Duran, Ali, Robinson...? It's either about taking a beating and having his career shortened or Canelo getting embarrassed and losing fans. But he's already embarrassed and losing fans so...
i think both fights will max out their gate receipts. dallas is full of chicanos and they are more forgiving of canelos jackassery than their south of the border cousins are. and we all know the brits are more supportive of their own than just about any other group of fans. the most telling evidence will come from seeing how ppv and viewership numbers stack up, and how the media and press paint the success, or failure, of each fight. winds of change are blowing in.
i dont think oscar himself will read this, but im sure the sentiment im expressing will get passed on to him in interviews and in private. its becoming to obvious to ignore.
I love me boxing as any fight fan bandee and I salivate for this fight as much as you do, but from a business perspective, after the Ggg-Lemieux ppv numbers came in, maybe Dlh was right about letting Ggg gain some more exposure and let the fight marinate, tho it was a ***** move from Canelo just surrendering over the belt like that. Speaking of marinating has made me hungry for some fajitas!
even before the mayweather fight started, everyone pretty much knew that only floyd was in danger of looking bad. he was the p4p #1 facing a kid barely out of puberty. today, youth and inexperience are no longer an excuse. also, its way more damaging to lose by embarrassing ko than it is to lose a game of tag.
as far as making the pie bigger, dlh is right. but his slice will keep getting smaller as long as the current trend continues.
Oscar and Canelo both KNOW for sure that it will be an embarrassing ko and they will have to rebuild after wards.
true, but they will be rebuilding with 30 million in their pocket. after a few hand picked fights and a change of trainers, oscar can sell the improved, in his absolute prime canelo story, for another 30 million.
