Maybe foolish but maybe letting the fight happen and Canelo getting the sh*t beaten out of him would have been worse.

The way I see it is Canelo can reverse the damage done to his reputation at any time by agreeing to fight Golovkin. Any fans who have turned on Canelo will come straight back to him as soon as he agrees to fight Golovkin.

The way GBP probably see it is it's worth it for Canelo's reputation takes a small hit now if they can postpone the Golovkin fight until the right time. Hoping they can fight (and beat) Golovkin when he is still #1 but starting to slip.

 

I agree, but what I'm saying is, he could have prevented Canelo from getting criticised at all by just relinquishing the belt earlier.
