Imagine if tonights fight was tied going into the 12th round? Both guys would come out furiously.... it sucked 2nite cause canelo got a gift on 2 cards so he didn't have to do anything in the final round
I don't see any scenario where open scoring is better. a fight can be exciting even if it's close without open scoring. with open scoring, there's no anticipation for the verdict because you know who is going to win. it was incredibly awkward to hear the Showtime team announce the official judges scores, which were vastly different then their cards which were basically even. you could tell they were debating sharing the official cards with the audience. after the 8th round they got the official scores, but didn't even announce them until right before the 10th. frankly, this was an example of where boxing fights are "overscored" to the point to where the opinions of the judges and ringside commentators change the entire complexion of the fight. fights are more entertaining when you aren't constantly checking to see "who's up on the cards" or whose behind on the cards. wait until after the fight is over to see who got the decision. decisions will always be debated, but to have the debate during the fight is overkill, and that's what you get with open scoring.
